I got a feeling....

Regardless if it be better for him to pitch in CBP, I feel like this is more of a feeling from Charlie. He knows he can do this and I believe he can. If he can give us 6-7 innings with 0-2 earned runs then its a success.

I like the Yankee pick in a way as it feeds Pedro’s psychology for the game. More of a past and motivation for him to dominate.

This could be interesting. I just hope they all get the job done. I’m confident in Manuels decisions. I just don’t want to see Hamels throw another hissy fit.

I think...

…Pedro is going to be great. He’s still got it, and he’s not scared.

It’s also worth mentioning that Jamie Moyer was heinous in the NLDS and NLCS last year but put it all together for Game 3 of the World Series last year. I’m not worried about Cole – when the lights are brightest he’ll shine.

Pedro’s lost more than most pitchers ever had. Big stage, hated rival, big pressure all seem to bring out the best in Pedro. Should be a fun series.

Whether or not Pedro is great, this means that Hamels probably only goes once in the series and pedro (or happ/blanton) would have to start a game 6

That’s the downside to this move.

Hamels would be in line to pitch a Game 7 on regular rest, but if Lee’s going to go on short rest in Game 4 (as rumored), why wouldn’t you go ahead and do that again for Game 7? Conversely, would Hamels be open to pitching Game 6 on short rest?

It’s a definite gamble, and I think I’d probably start Cole in Game 2 if it were my decision. But it’s a close question, and I can’t say I’m all that upset about it.

My reply assumes that the rumors of Lee pitching Game 4 are wrong. I have no real reason to think they are wrong, except that they dont really make any sense unless you want Lee to pitch Game 7. Lee is great, but that is a lot of 3 day rest for a pitcher, when arguably the other Phillies starters are not exactly dog meat.

If Lee does pitch game 4 and 7 though, pitching hamels in 3 instead of 2 is a pretty terrible move in my opinion.

Hopefully Charlie hasn’t made up his mind about Game 4. The right decision may depend on where the series stands at that point.

I just assumed that Lee would pitch game 7 since he was going on game 4 myself

Hamels would be ready for game 7 though, right?

Lee, Pedro, Hamels, Blanton, Lee, Pedro/Happ, Hamels is not all that bad.

Also, Yankees line up is a bit righty heavy, when considering the talent levels of the batters.

For someone like Pedro and of his age, I believe adrenaline can play a bigger part in performance than say Lee or Hamels. I am curious as to whether Charlie talked with Pedro about this at all, because playing at home would certainly give a big rush as well. Maybe Pedro would get a bigger rush from silencing the crowd etc.

Also, this may have more to do with Hamels home/road splits than with Pedro, in which case it is a pretty solid move.

I personally feel that Charlie’s “I dont know a lot bout stats” is a smoke and mirrors routine such that he doesnt have to give away much information to the media and that opposing teams may underestimate (or fail to predict) his various strategic decisions.

This move would fall right into that category, as it will be more or less seen as some big mushy emotional hurrah from Charlie to the legend vet, even though the move could be easily justified on simple analysis of statistical splits.

Maybe it is just my sense of humor that hopes Charlie is just playing the fool (because I think that would be really funny), but some of his past moves seem to back up this guess as well.
