out of luck

Not getting the broadcast here in northern NJ. I guess Yankees fans want to see the outcome of the Twins/Royals game…

Tom McCarthy doing the PBP on the Fox broadcast. Now he REALLY can root for the other team.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 3, 2009 4:13 PM EDT reply actions

Chris Coghlan has all the makings of another Phillie killer on the Marlins. Leadoff double.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 3, 2009 4:13 PM EDT reply actions

More first inning runs allowed. Cole looking shaky again.

Playoffs are gonna be really fun if things keep going the way they have over the last 2+ weeks.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 3, 2009 4:16 PM EDT reply actions

fourth game in a row giving up first inning runs. two runs in each of the last three first frames. getting behind early like this will spell doom in the playoffs against top pitching.

And they are running all over him.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 3, 2009 4:17 PM EDT reply actions

But he’s our Ace. The way both Hamels and Lee have looked lately it could be a rough series.

Out of sync

The unusual start time threw me off – I’m used to 4:00 games meaning 4:00 Pacific time. I guess they were getting ready to put this on Fox if the game meant anything for the postseason.

by phillyinportland on Oct 3, 2009 4:18 PM EDT reply actions

That reference is to the Twins-Royals on Fox here. I assumed that would be the national game since it has major playoff implications.

by phillyinportland on Oct 3, 2009 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions

We get Twin-Royals too.

by Steve-O- on Oct 3, 2009 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s an important game, so it’s hard to kvetch. I’m still bitter I couldn’t watch the division clincher last season, though.

Prince FIelder just thrown out at home in top 9th, going to bottom 9th in St. Louis, Brewers leading 5-4. Pujols due to bat fourth in inning (i.e., the winning run).

hoffman looks OLD! struck out glauss though… go grandpa!

by LondonPhillie on Oct 3, 2009 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Well we’re guaranteed to at least tie the cards. Does it go by season series for homefield? how does that work?

by LondonPhillie on Oct 3, 2009 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, the Phillies have the tiebreaker (head-to-head) so the Phillies are going to host the Wild Card team.

Cards lose, Phils clinch HFA in first round!

Cole walks Paulino after making him looks silly on consecutive change ups. Inexplicably stopped throwing it until the count was full.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 3, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

Coughlin just can’t be retired. 3-0.

Cole sucks today.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 3, 2009 4:36 PM EDT reply actions

if LA and COL tie does it go by H2H to see who visits the phils?

by LondonPhillie on Oct 3, 2009 4:36 PM EDT reply actions

phils must still have hangovers from wednesday night! did you see brett shoving a bottle of champaign in amaro’s face while he’s getting interviewed and saying “drink some.. its good for you!” what a drunk..

Howard has left the building.

great season for howard. walks are down but so are strikeouts. amazing how consistently he’s around 45 HR and 140 RBI

by LondonPhillie on Oct 3, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Damn…I missed it! Got sick of watching Marlins score and turned the tv off!

by JohnIrvinKennedy on Oct 3, 2009 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m listening to this on the radio, but considering turning it off in favor of Twins/Royals…

Werth with a late push for 20 steals, I guess.

by dajafi on Oct 3, 2009 4:47 PM EDT reply actions

Howard

44, no 45 HRs, 140 plus RBIs, batting average over .280. And his OPS, while not at the incredible level of 2006-07, is still over .930 and is tenth best in the NL. He’s a keeper.

by phillyinportland on Oct 3, 2009 4:48 PM EDT reply actions

…and a welcome improvement over his 2008 campaign wherein his OBP dropped below .340.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 3, 2009 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions

True

Despite lots of HRs and RBIs his numbers were down considerably last year and it was in many respects his second straight year of decreased production. Good to see that trend reversed.

by phillyinportland on Oct 3, 2009 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions

By the way

I was curious how bad Ibanez had gotten because of his second-half slump. I was surprised to see his OPS is .905, 15th best in the NL, on par with Lance Berkman and Todd Helton.

top of our lineup looking fierce. i cant watch this anymore

utley in particular looks out of sync

by LondonPhillie on Oct 3, 2009 5:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Hamels out, Walker in.

by dajafi on Oct 3, 2009 5:08 PM EDT reply actions

Does that mean there’s a chance Hamels will start again on Wednesday (Game 1) or is it decided to go with Lee in Game 1?

by phillyinportland on Oct 3, 2009 5:10 PM EDT reply actions

Go away Pedro Feliz. Go away and never come back.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 3, 2009 5:22 PM EDT reply actions

Looks like everybody went away. Twins just scored four runs off Greinke to go up 4-0.
Hey, there’s a Bastardo sighting on the mound for the Phillies.

by phillyinportland on Oct 3, 2009 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Bastardo?

Thought he’d disappeared into the Twilight Zone.

Given Escalona’s struggles, it’s actually great to see him out there. With Romero done, I’d prefer to see him over Escalona on the playoff roster. Then again, Eyre and Happ should be enough as far as lefties go, but you never know what Charlie’s mindset is.

by PhillyFriar on Oct 3, 2009 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Uggla can play 3B and the Marlins are lookin to trade him in the offseason. Hm…could be interesting to see if he could be had.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 3, 2009 6:05 PM EDT reply actions

Don't know

Uggla and Utley on the same team? That could be ugly.

by phillyinportland on Oct 3, 2009 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Hadn’t seen this idea thrown out before, but it’s worthy of discussion. There are three potential pitfalls as I see it: (1) how much would Uggla make through arbitration (at least $7 million, right)?; (2) how would he fare defensively at 3B?; and (3) he’s OPS’ed 80 points lower against LHP than RHP in his career. On balance, and given what he would likely cost in prospects, my gut instinct is to say I’d pass, but it’s certainly worthy of consideration.

by PhillyFriar on Oct 3, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed. On the other hand, with the way the Dodgers are playing and with the Cardinals failing to do anything the last week it looks like three out of the four NL playoff teams will be going in with very little or no momentum. If the Rockies knock off the Dodgers the next two games and get home field advantage in the playoffs, they just might be the favorites. How weird would that be?

by phillyinportland on Oct 3, 2009 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions

*crapshimself*

If the Rockies got home field, I would lose it.
