Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

We've been here before. In fact, just over one year ago. Will Bud Selig pull the same crap Saturday night he pulled for Game 5 last year? If the weather's really as bad as it seems they're forecasting, here's hoping they call it early before either pitcher throws anything, and before any fans make their trek from wherever they are coming.

Key questions though: if the game is postponed to Sunday, do the Yankees skip Pettite and go with Sabathia for a Sunday Game 3? Also, no doubt Lee pitches on Monday regardless of whether it's Game 4 or Game 5, right?

Could they seriously make them play 5 days in a row in the world series?

Well...
Could they seriously make them play 5 days in a row in the world series?

Every time something irrational seems like it might happen in Major League Baseball, remind yourself of two words: Bud. Selig.

what's so wrong with that?

Umm…how often in the regular season do you play 5 days in a row?

All the time.

I’ve got no problem with that decision, I’d much prefer it over playing a game in the rain, or worse playing half a game in the rain, then waiting a day to finish it.

And it’s not like it’s cross country travel, it’s only a couple hours, depending on how you travel.

as a Meteorologist let me say

with getting too technical the new short range Models are out and they have actually slowod the front down ….which means the rain lasts from 6-7pm to 1am Saturday…. so the odds are high this game postoned.

If so that could mean LEE could go Game 4 …no?

Hmm

At this point a rainout could be good, no? Pitch Hamels-Lee back to back. That’s not too shabby, even if Hamels has been uneven this year. I love Joe the Pitcher but I gotta take Clifton over him in Game 4.

Gonna have to pitch Blanton and/or Happ at some point. Lee definitely would have to go on Monday no matter what, leaving him available for bullpen action in Game 7 if needed.

If we’re postponed, the question becomes whether or not the travel off-day is eliminated. With the close proximity, there’s no “need” for the travel day.

I suppose FOX and the start of November sweeps has some say in that – if you push back the travel day you force them to alter their programming plans and they might not want to do that.

Looking better now?

To my amateur eyes, the radar is looking better now. But boy would Bud Selig look terrible if this game were to start and then have to be called quickly, since it would ruin Hamels and Pettitte’s turns in the rotations.

305 pm yeah it IS looking better

http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/Conus/northeast.php

but the issue still isnt decided. IF the radar still looks like this at 630-7pm
then we got a good chance to get y this game in.

I think blowing through a starter helps the Phillies out more than the Yankees anyway though. Hamels is probably better than Pettitte, but he has had his problems this year. Yankees middle relief is also probably not as good as Phillies. Finally, with a three man rotation, burning a starter is much worse for the Yankees than it is for the Philies.

I hope they play.

Just for personal, selfish reasons. I want to watch the Phillies tonight.

things looking Better at 453pm

line of showers approaching does NOT look wide or heavy
it runs from allentown to Lancaster and York and 25 miles west of BWI

the ONLY convern I have is are of rain developing over eastern KY and southern WVA… if These showres increase and hold together they are headed for eastern / se PA . Then could Move into se PA and philly OR slide JUST to the west during the Game

Another rain-delayed Saturday night game?

I know weather isn’t entirely predictable but how many times do we have to do this end of October/early November timeline before someone in charge realizes it’s too late in the year to play baseball in most of the country.
