The Phillies' backs aren't to the wall, but it's kinda closeish. After last night's upsetting, soggy loss, the Phillies look to even things up against the Yankees tonight behind Joe Blanton. They'll attempt to do so against CC Sabathia, against whom the Phillies have secured two victories in the last two postseasons.
More improbable things have happened. Like Joe Blanton hitting a home run.
A win tonight sends this back to New York. Huzzah!

Hence my statement about the ‘evil’ human race – i get the plot – it’s not exactly original – cameron going for special effects – this is pretty much the plot of battle for terra.
But the whole ‘defenseless underdogs’ metaphor is irritating, also, trying to pimp your movie by interspersing it through the opening is just dumb

He’s had a hard season and too many people over analyzing it incorrectly – he said it in frustration and it’s blown out of proportion – it’s FOX – if they don’t exaggerate – they don’t know what to do.

Definitely Pedro. He pitched very well in Game 2, and Happ simply hasn’t been effective for most of the postseason.

No, you have to think of it like an appeal on a tag-up play. If the defense doesn’t at leastt make the appeal, then the player is simply “safe” and allowed to advance as he already has.

I think the Saints are the best team in the NFC. Vikings probably #2. Then I don’t see a team that’s clearly better than the Birds.
I expect Favre to do another late season fade as his body wears down from the season that he avoided early in the season by avoiding training camp.

Your broadcast must be delayed. Was on the phone with my mom in Phila during Game 1 and hers was a few seconds behind. Not sure if it’s because the transmitter is here or what.
I believe it’s Comcast Digital Cable that has the delay. I can tell you guys are a few seconds ahead of me.

Manuel has been interpreting the closer role loosely with Lidge. It would be a bit strange for him to feel bound by the book in a tie game.
After his ‘performance’ in the playoffs the pundits declare him fixed so Manuel probably thinks he’s fixed too – this is where that players coach loyalty mentality bites you in the ass

Torre used to do this all the time, let himself get beat on the road without using his best reliever.
It’s not torre – it’s the established wisdom – at home you pitch your closer in the 9th of a tie game on the road you don’t.
The ‘closer’ itself is something that managers get themselves beat in all the time, closer=9th inning, but this is just ancient baseball wisdom converted into truth

Whether or not he’s available – the book doesn’t call for rivera in the bottom of the 9th unless the yankees score…it’s just ‘not done’ and girardi was a player so less likely to be ‘inventive’ or ‘smart’ asopposed to following the same old same old
