New York Yankees at Philadelphia Phillies, Nov 1, 2009 8:20 PM EST
The Phillies' backs aren't to the wall, but it's kinda closeish. After last night's upsetting, soggy loss, the Phillies look to even things up against the Yankees tonight behind Joe Blanton. They'll attempt to do so against CC Sabathia, against whom the Phillies have secured two victories in the last two postseasons.
More improbable things have happened. Like Joe Blanton hitting a home run.
A win tonight sends this back to New York. Huzzah!

Hence my statement about the ‘evil’ human race – i get the plot – it’s not exactly original – cameron going for special effects – this is pretty much the plot of battle for terra.
But the whole ‘defenseless underdogs’ metaphor is irritating, also, trying to pimp your movie by interspersing it through the opening is just dumb

He’s had a hard season and too many people over analyzing it incorrectly – he said it in frustration and it’s blown out of proportion – it’s FOX – if they don’t exaggerate – they don’t know what to do.

If howard goes back to tag before the guy makes the throw to first – he gets tagged and the ump then believes he missed home and called him out – if the ump calls you safe – don’t give him reason to doubt

No. He’s not out unless he’s tagged. He was never tagged.
“Safe” is merely the absence of a putout. It’s technically not a run until the next pitch is thrown.

No, you have to think of it like an appeal on a tag-up play. If the defense doesn’t at leastt make the appeal, then the player is simply “safe” and allowed to advance as he already has.

I don’t know about that. Umps often wait to make a call until the guy touches home if he’s obviously missed it. There’s a reason for that, I would think – no run until the call is made.

I can tell you definitively, if the ump hasn’t called it, and the defense takes the ball and runs over to the dugout and tags Howard, he’s out. You’ve never seen a guy cross home plate without it eventually being ruled an out or a run.
