SBN Postseason Baseball Awards -- National League Most Valuable Player, and... The Good Phight Blogger Ballots Revealed!
And the SBN bloggers roll out the last set of postseason awards... last but not least, National League Most Valuable Player. The not-shocking results (and the ballots of jonk and me on all awards) after the jump
And the only even mild surprise is that the voting was unanimous. Albert Pujols, cleaning house, and it's well-deserved.
Four Phillies received votes -- Chase Utley finishing third, Ryan Howard seventh, Jayson Werth 22nd, and Raul Ibanez 26th.
And who put Utley 10th? And who left him off the ballot entirely? For crying out loud...

Joey Votto getting a second place vote? Juan Pierre actually getting consideration for 380 ABs? Sad.
Wow! The Pierre one is egregious. I’m guessing the Morgan vote was intended as a joke, so that isn’t nearly as bad.
For what it’s worth, Morgan, who shouldn’ t be considered for it either way, had better numbers than Pierre. Bourne was more valuable than Pierre!
But but – the dodgers didn’t suck as much as expected when Manny got suspended so that was because of the great juan pierre

If you want to have your Pierre question and one of your Utley questions answered

I’m curious what they’ll do with Votto, as Yonder Alonso is nipping at his heals for a call-up next year.
Jocketty had an Amaro line the other day, saying something along the lines of trading Votto as being ridiculous. And he’s right. I’m sure the Red Sox would love to trade for him, but you don’t build a team by trading away your best young hitters.
Plus, Alonso would probably be best served with another year in the minors. He really struggles with left-handed pitching right now, and he only has 105 at bats above High-A.
They’ll have to trade either Votto or Yonder at some point, I imagine. I could see them trying Yonder at 3rd and trading Francisco if Yonder can play there. Good problem to have, the Reds have a nice farm system.
The word from Cincy
It is a good problem to have, for sure. Yonder doesn’t look to move around, whereas Votto played a handful of games in LF at AAA before his call up. It seems that would be the best way to go, filling a gaping offensive hole in LF while having a minimal drop off (if any) at 1B.

I feel more than a little vindicated in my 2nd place vote for Chase Utley. Like the BBWAA ballots, ours were cast after the end of the regular season but before the playoffs. Utley had a poor September and I had some doubts about my decision to put him 2nd. I look a lot cooler in light of his World Series exploits!

You’re certainly vindicated. To be honest, I’m trying to figure out how 5 people left Utley off their ballots entirely — the lowest you can possibly rank him is fourth, and I agree with you that he belongs second.
Also, kudos to both of you (and a mystery third voter!) for putting Werth on your ballots. He has the numbers to back up his inclusion (.382 wOBA, Top 15 in the league in WAR) and also the elusive narrative quality (great all-around player, kept the Phillies lineup balanced as its only right-handed power threat). For my money, he was the second most valuable Phillie this year behind Utley.
