Yeah, she has a good voice. I just wish some singers weren’t “inspired” to add about a half-dozen extra notes into certain parts of the Anthem.
That ball hit deep! Way back! You can put it on the boooaaaard...YES!
Long drive into deep right center field! This ball is OUTTA HEEERRRREE!

Interesting move on the DH – did anyone call the Francisco Ibanez swap?
Also – Charlie – no pitchers – you don’t HAVE to bat Pedro Feliz 7th

I would have loved to see Werth split Howard and Utley and Francisco split Howard and Ibanez.

And more importantly, tonight will really suck if they Yanks win it.

the REAL or BIG question is this… will Howard do anything other than K or Pop up to the infield?
by DT1 on Nov 4, 2009 8:14 PM EST up reply actions
im not so worried. just needs to keep good movement.
let them hit the ball and the defense will take care of it. we dont need strike outs
there just gonna pound howard inside.
i think he should take a step back from the plate and just foul off outside stuff until he gets something to drive. he can hit low and high pitches just needs to be able to extend his arms tonight and hell break out
Howard has Made LOTS of contact..
pop ups to SS or soft ground outs to 1b

Charlie’s great and all…but he has really done a horrible job this series. But then again, no one was ever calling him a good in-game manager.
But it sucks, because he was a good in-game manager for most of the playoffs. And then he stopped doing what got him here at the most inopportune time.
Ok, time for an epic comeback and shit on the Yankee’s chests.

It's amazing how ineffective our lefties are. good lord.
"They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds." - Wilt Chamberlain
The upsetting thing about this game is that they aren’t playing like the team we’re used to seeing. Bad ABs, defensive mistakes, self-inflicted wounds.
We’re quickly running out of time here.
The play that Werth got picked off on in Game 2, that was the big momentum changer in that series. Before that, we had the Yankees on their heels with all of the momentum. Since then, the Yankees had us on our heels with barely any let up til Game 5.
"Want a donut go to dunkin donuts, want a linebacker go to Penn State."
- Cris Carter, NFL Draft, 4/25/09
You can’t deny that there was a momentum shift after that play. Is it completely responsible? No? Cholly has had some horrific managerial decisions and the Yankees leftys have managed to shut down our offense except for Utley.
I could be very wrong though..
"Want a donut go to dunkin donuts, want a linebacker go to Penn State."
- Cris Carter, NFL Draft, 4/25/09
That was a big “narrative” moment, but I think it was more the fourth and fifth innings of Game Three, unfortunately.
Yeah. Cole’s implosion deflated the team during that game.
"Want a donut go to dunkin donuts, want a linebacker go to Penn State."

Nope.
This team came back when everyone expected them to roll over and die in Game 5. Even though things look bleak now, they are fighters and honestly, it’s great that we were able to be back in the World Series. I mean, people were ecstatic merely two years ago just to be going to the playoffs. Plus, there were so many injuries this year to pitching, the bullpen was not nearly as strong as last year as well.
I think next year, after some rest and refocusing, this team will contend again.

I was going to trot out the last game six story, from 1993, where the score was 5-1 Blue Jays after five innings, but then Matsui had to go and drive in two more. Anyway, the point was that for six innings the Phillies that night looked dead, then they went ahead. So, it’s not over.

Nah…there is a great deal of foresight involved in every Durbin appearance. For instance, foreseeing that he will suck.
I wish I could take more consolation in the fact that this was almost certainly his last ever appearance for the Phillies.
On the other hand, Happ got smashed by Matsui…so had you put him in for Pedro in the 3rd, he probably would have gotten smashed then too.
On the other hand, it didn’t have to be Durbin at the start of the 5th. It could have been Chan Ho.

I’ve been keeping a tally of Good ABs, Poor ABs and Mediocre ABs. After 6.5 innings, both teams have sent 25 men to the plate. By my count, the Phillies have 7 good ABs, 16 poor ABs, and 2 Mediocre ABs. The Yankees have 13 good ABs, 7 poor ABs and 5 OK ABs… Bad job by our hitters thus far, good job by theirs.

by Wet Luzinski on Nov 4, 2009 10:23 PM EST up reply actions
lol, my completely objective opinion of an at bat which displays good plate discipline – not swinging at borderline pitches with no strikes, not swinging at balls out of the zone, taking a good cut at pitches that can be driven…

i didn’t lay down any concrete definitions. started in the middle of the first inning, so it’s kind of impromptu. i find that most plate appearances fit fairly obviously, though. i.e. jimmy rollins 1st inning weak groundout with no strikes, poor AB

Phillies bullpen has a 7.11 ERA in the World Series. In 12 2/3 innings: 15 hits, 10 earned runs, five walks and two homers. 16 strikeouts.
How many offseasons will Howard have to work on his throwing before he can be competent at turning the 3-6-1 or 3-6-3?

I’ve been calling for a trade with him for a while. I mean he had done a lot for us and all but right now hes just not with it in the end, the last two years. He’s acting like a power hitter, trying to make himself into a Soriano (when good) when he isn’t at all. He needs to focus on contact hitting and using his speed there after while he still has it.
If I’m Girardi, I order Marte not to throw anything in the strike zone. He’ll probably walk Utley, but that’s fine; you just go after Howard then.
Big at-bat
Would they semi-intentionally walk Utley and risk a game-tying situation with Howard?

at least we got to experience the feeling of being the World Phucking Champions, no team can take that away

don’t be bitter. be classy.

If it were true they’d win the title every year because every year they have the highest payroll
Don't frack with me or you'll get a punch in the kidneys...you've been warned
by jemagee on Nov 5, 2009 6:22 PM EST up reply actions
You're right about that...
but it’s not like they’ve missed the playoffs every year… they make the playoffs, but fall short. Buying the best players puts you in contention year after year.
(Come to think of it, the Yankees are usually choke artists, like the Mets. Only this time they didn’t choke. That’s good for them.)
Also, they payed more for the three of the top free agents on the market last year than many teams have as a total payroll in a year. I’ll say that if anything, this is the best year that you could make the arguement that the Yankees bought the championship.
Welp, that's it
Be proud of our boys. They made it back to the World Series and fought ’till the end.
That ball hit deep! Way back! You can put it on the boooaaaard...YES!
Long drive into deep right center field! This ball is OUTTA HEEERRRREE!

Thanks for being here this year everyone…
Seeing the guys go home without a World Series trophy is a little disappointing, but I am glad to have something to compare it to. :)
Seriously, I’ve been a fan since I was a kid (too young to have remembered 1980, or really 1983), and if any time in there you had asked how I would like to see a team win three straight division titles, two pennants, and a world championship, I certainly would not have complained.
Next year will be here before we know it, and no one should be surprised to see the Phils back here again
goodnight everyone
thank you for spending another season with us
stay tuned this offseason!

I always laugh thinking of detrimental Japanese who have to try to understand him rather than correct him or tell him straight up that they can’t fucking understand him.

No high hopes tonight. Sorry, Harry. We failed.
My name is Finlay, and I love to fight!
easy. “I went out in style.”
You’d rather be Rich Ashburn, dying on the road in 1997 in (ugh) NY?
But, yeah, thanks for bringing that up.

For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?
It would take all I had after the TBS debacle not to deride “that foppish poofter on the field.”
