Yeah, she has a good voice. I just wish some singers weren’t “inspired” to add about a half-dozen extra notes into certain parts of the Anthem.

That ball hit deep! Way back! You can put it on the boooaaaard...YES!

Long drive into deep right center field! This ball is OUTTA HEEERRRREE!

Interesting move on the DH – did anyone call the Francisco Ibanez swap?

Also – Charlie – no pitchers – you don’t HAVE to bat Pedro Feliz 7th

the REAL or BIG question is this… will Howard do anything other than K or Pop up to the infield?

by DT1 on Nov 4, 2009 8:14 PM EST up reply actions

im not so worried. just needs to keep good movement.

let them hit the ball and the defense will take care of it. we dont need strike outs

by early818 on Nov 4, 2009 8:15 PM EST up reply actions

there just gonna pound howard inside.

i think he should take a step back from the plate and just foul off outside stuff until he gets something to drive. he can hit low and high pitches just needs to be able to extend his arms tonight and hell break out

At least it’s not a strikeout!

We’re quickly running out of time here.

by dajafi on Nov 4, 2009 9:16 PM EST reply actions

The play that Werth got picked off on in Game 2, that was the big momentum changer in that series. Before that, we had the Yankees on their heels with all of the momentum. Since then, the Yankees had us on our heels with barely any let up til Game 5.

Nope.

This team came back when everyone expected them to roll over and die in Game 5. Even though things look bleak now, they are fighters and honestly, it’s great that we were able to be back in the World Series. I mean, people were ecstatic merely two years ago just to be going to the playoffs. Plus, there were so many injuries this year to pitching, the bullpen was not nearly as strong as last year as well.

I think next year, after some rest and refocusing, this team will contend again.

I was going to trot out the last game six story, from 1993, where the score was 5-1 Blue Jays after five innings, but then Matsui had to go and drive in two more. Anyway, the point was that for six innings the Phillies that night looked dead, then they went ahead. So, it’s not over.

I’ve been keeping a tally of Good ABs, Poor ABs and Mediocre ABs. After 6.5 innings, both teams have sent 25 men to the plate. By my count, the Phillies have 7 good ABs, 16 poor ABs, and 2 Mediocre ABs. The Yankees have 13 good ABs, 7 poor ABs and 5 OK ABs… Bad job by our hitters thus far, good job by theirs.

by PhillyFriar on Nov 4, 2009 10:23 PM EST up reply actions

lol, my completely objective opinion of an at bat which displays good plate discipline – not swinging at borderline pitches with no strikes, not swinging at balls out of the zone, taking a good cut at pitches that can be driven…

i didn’t lay down any concrete definitions. started in the middle of the first inning, so it’s kind of impromptu. i find that most plate appearances fit fairly obviously, though. i.e. jimmy rollins 1st inning weak groundout with no strikes, poor AB

I’ve been calling for a trade with him for a while. I mean he had done a lot for us and all but right now hes just not with it in the end, the last two years. He’s acting like a power hitter, trying to make himself into a Soriano (when good) when he isn’t at all. He needs to focus on contact hitting and using his speed there after while he still has it.

After strike 1, I knew Chase had no shot.

The zone just expanded too much for even a good hitter to be effective. Marte has really been the beneficiary of some awful strike zones in his appearances. No shame in sucking against a reliever who is being helped out by the umps.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 4, 2009 10:54 PM EST reply actions

There isn’t a lot that needs changing though. This is a damn good team with the entire core in its prime and returning next year. A new third baseman would be nice, as well as some bullpen and bench pieces, but there isn’t a lot to do besides tweak and run this team back out there next year.

by jemagee on Nov 5, 2009 6:22 PM EST up reply actions

You're right about that...

but it’s not like they’ve missed the playoffs every year… they make the playoffs, but fall short. Buying the best players puts you in contention year after year.

(Come to think of it, the Yankees are usually choke artists, like the Mets. Only this time they didn’t choke. That’s good for them.)

Also, they payed more for the three of the top free agents on the market last year than many teams have as a total payroll in a year. I’ll say that if anything, this is the best year that you could make the arguement that the Yankees bought the championship.

Thanks for being here this year everyone…

Seeing the guys go home without a World Series trophy is a little disappointing, but I am glad to have something to compare it to. :)

Seriously, I’ve been a fan since I was a kid (too young to have remembered 1980, or really 1983), and if any time in there you had asked how I would like to see a team win three straight division titles, two pennants, and a world championship, I certainly would not have complained.

Next year will be here before we know it, and no one should be surprised to see the Phils back here again
