4. Phillies: Philadelphia had the depth to trade for Cliff Lee and still have a top-flight farm system. Outfielder Michael Taylor has hit .333 over the last two seasons, rocketing to Triple-A, and fellow outfielder Dominic Brown has better tools, though he's still a bit raw. Righty Kyle Drabek, son of the former Cy Young Award winner Doug Drabek, has three above-average pitches to go with excellent athletic ability. Beyond their Big Three -- all of whom have performed at Double-A or above -- the Phillies are bursting with young power arms, toolsy Latin American infielders and athletic outfielders, such as Anthony Gose.
Baseball America ranks Phillies' farm system #4 in baseball.

What’s really ironic is that there are only two “toolsy” Latin American infielders I can think of that are even worth mentioning — Jonathan Villan and Harold Garcia — and the latter has been left unprotected in this year’s Rule 5 draft.
If you’re going to use toolsy at all, it should be to describe Gose, Anthony Hewitt, Zach Collier, Jiwan James, and Kyrell Hudson.
Hewitt’s an infielder, isn’t he? I know he’s not long for that position, but for now. Not Latin American though.
The latest info had Hewitt moving to the outfield, which makes sense given the .832 fielding percentage (!) he posted across his first two seasons.

I literally chortled when I read the article and saw that word, thinking of you!

wow
Its pretty crazy that of the top 5 farm systems the phils are the only one to make the playoffs this year. Where are the other playoff teams?? The Cardinals are also ranked in the bottom 5 and they were a playoff team, wierd.
im glad this is great news even though i hve known that the phils do have a good system
eff you we winning anyway
That’s very encouraging. The system really has almost everything one could hope for, other than maybe a third baseman.
Does anyone know where the Braves and Mets are ranked?
so – excuse me if this has been explained before, but what do people mean when they call someone toolsy? having a variety of different skills? thanks!
No, no! This just confirms my point that nobody really knows what the word means! Join me, tat167, in rejecting the terminology!
A tool (insult) is an easily manipulated person who will do anything for anyone because no one actually likes them.
A toolsy guy in baseball, I always took as a guy with all the physical tools to be an allstar, if he can get the mental part of the game down. Batting is mental, I always thought.

When scouting a baseball player you look at his 5 basic tools.
Fielding
Arm Strength
Speed
Hitting for Power
Hitting for Average
A guy who is considered “toolsy” is someone who has a combination of a few or all of these tools.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
I like this one equally
