UPDATE: He's an Astro!! The Brett Myers Sweepstakes: It's Coming Down to the Wire

BUMP: quakerfan wins the INNERNETS!!!

I haven't forgotten my original offer, in case anyone (like, say, quakerfan) is wondering. For true fans of all things Meatheaded, looks like our guy will be heading to Texas, one way or another. Neither park will help much with his FB tendencies, but the state is a great source of big hats for the few cattle he has. And really, didn't we all know that the possibility of signing an overpriced reliever is the easiest ruse to lure Ed Wade into a dark parking lot at night to kidnap him?

And unless I missed a post by not reading carefully, there's still a chance for someone to choose the Rangers and snag some Tastykakes. But you just know he's going to be an Astro. You know it.

I picked the Mets, guess I’m SoL

As a long time lurker, first time poster, I’m not sure I fit WL’s stipulation from the earlier post that he recognize my name, but if possible, I’d like to take on the Rangers if untaken. I’m totally willing to identify any TGP meme if it helps to prove that I’ve just been shy til now, not just a troll or an opportunist.

by Trev223 on Dec 5, 2009 2:03 PM EST reply actions

given the time lag, everyone else snoozed and loozed. You’ve got the Rangers.

by Wet Luzinski on Dec 5, 2009 4:08 PM EST up reply actions

sorry FM. You of all people have had your opportunities! Plus, if I read you correctly, you can find Tastykakes at your local Acame.

by Wet Luzinski on Dec 5, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

Haha. I know, I know. But it was worth the try.

And just because I can find them doesn’t mean I can buy them. I am a broke college student, after all.

Trev223, just one small TGP quiz, as I’m now conflicted because FM is such a fixture here (and you beat him by 50 minutes, but not to my original post):

1) How does Whole Camels reply to people who think that the Phillies strike out too much?
2) Who was my un-Philly-fan like game chatter meme/rally post throughout the 2009 playoffs?
3) What is taco pal’s least favorite adjective to describe a baseball prospect?

by Wet Luzinski on Dec 5, 2009 4:18 PM EST up reply actions

the sad thing is, i know all of these

by CoburnsCuddleBuddy on Dec 5, 2009 5:40 PM EST up reply actions

Bit Late, but hopefully accurate!

1) I can’t remember his exact response from the last thread (and I hate the idea of cheating for this), so I’ll say a) with rage in his heart, and b) by pointing out ad nauseum (and correctly) that a strikeout is just as good/bad as any other kind of out.

2) Mr. Positive!

3) Toolsy. This one’s hard to forget.

Actually, I was kind of expecting a question about fisting the ball, but I like these. Thanks for the chance.

And I am sorry to jump ahead of you here, FM. If it’s any consolation, your response to the Rollins double in the 9th against the Dodgers was probably my favorite part of the offseason.

by Trev223 on Dec 5, 2009 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

Haha, don’t worry about it. I had some krimpets today anyhoo. I don’t even remember what I said after that double, I was in such a haze. That whole night is a blur.

by FuquaManuel on Dec 5, 2009 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

What did he say? I was at the game and was about 99% of the way to barfing with excitement, honest.

I don’t remember exactly what it was, but there was a commenter that I don’t think I ever saw again constantly calling for a comeback. It was irritating FM (and me) because it just seemed like empty positivity, but I remember that when Jimmy got the hit, FM just gave all credit to the positive poster.

Not a specific thing, albeit, but just super emblematic of the melted negativity that I think everyone felt right before that hit. It just put a smile on my face.

by Trev223 on Dec 5, 2009 10:09 PM EST up reply actions

Also, man am I jealous that you were at that game, WC. I caught the near comeback of the 2nd NLDS game, and it was just such a letdown. Can’t imagine how great it was to see it work!

It was CoburnsCuddleBuddy…to his credit, he is still around these parts.

Oh! I thought it was that Jay guy that just showed up for a few games.

by Trev223 on Dec 5, 2009 11:02 PM EST up reply actions

Jay is a blog lord at LetsGoTribe, but lives in Philadelphia and hates the Yankees with all his heart.

Huh, well, the enemy of my enemy I guess. I can get behind that, haha.

well and truly done Trev223. The Rangers pick is yours.

by Wet Luzinski on Dec 6, 2009 12:41 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks WL. I like to think that the real prize is that I’m finally getting myself into the conversation…but it’s probably the tastykakes. Big money, big money, big money!

by Trev223 on Dec 6, 2009 7:54 PM EST up reply actions

Never been part of a trivia question before. I finally feel like I’ve achieved something in life.

by taco pal on Dec 7, 2009 9:50 AM EST up reply actions

strange, isn’t it, how one man’s life touches so many others.

by Wet Luzinski on Dec 7, 2009 5:03 PM EST up reply actions

btw, which one of you out there works for Tastykakes and is costing me money?

by Wet Luzinski on Dec 5, 2009 4:30 PM EST reply actions

This could be Ed Wade’s chance to make amends for all his past wrongdoings.

by quakerfan on Dec 5, 2009 6:15 PM EST reply actions

Pau Hagen picks the Phillies. FWIW I’ll send him the Tastykakes if that happens.

by Wet Luzinski on Dec 8, 2009 5:18 PM EST reply actions

Can I pick the Phillies? I mean, if we end up having to watch Myers pitch for our team again next year, I’m probably gonna need the tastykakes.

by FuquaManuel on Dec 9, 2009 1:23 AM EST up reply actions

okay. Hagen probably doesn’t need them as bad as a starving young college student.

by Wet Luzinski on Dec 9, 2009 7:42 AM EST up reply actions

From Driveline Mechanics, an interesting post on Herr Fleischkopf.

by Wet Luzinski on Dec 10, 2009 10:13 PM EST reply actions

I’m extremely late to this party, but wouldn’t be hilarious if Myers wound up going to Japan?

by ThinMountainAir on Dec 16, 2009 12:41 PM EST reply actions

Meathead the Ham Fighter. Outstanding. You have the Japan League outright.
