Was it in the SI article that Cole’s wife was talking about adopting African kids? She seemed to be saying some pretty questionable stuff about dreaming as a kid that one day she would have Black friends/kids of her own. I dunno, I thought it was pretty cringe worthy. Also, I always find it weird when people refer to African people as “Black”—African people certainly wouldn’t refer to themselves as such.

wow
“Cringe worthy” is right. I hadn’t read the entire article before.
Overall I think it’s good-hearted of her, I guess, but wow, she sounds like a clod there.
And didn’t she have The Cosby Show where she grew up?

“We’re in the process of adopting an AIDS orphan from Ethiopia,” she said. “Maybe two. I’m so pumped. I’d adopt six if I could. When I was five years old—I grew up in a very rural town in Missouri, and I had never even seen a black person—they asked us to draw a picture of ourselves in the future, and I drew myself holding hands with a line of tiny black stick figures. I’ve always wanted this.”
Yeah…me too…

It certainly is a good thing to do, she just didn’t articulate her feelings very well.

Yes, using the words “I’m so pumped” and “tiny black stick figures” were an odd choice or words. Also, cringe-inducing was the thought that it was she who helped counsel Cole on how to answer questions in the media. Eegads. Does she say “ya know” every other word, too?

oh my
Wow – that’s pretty incredible. I agree – great thing to do, but just an absurdly incredible way of saying it.

Sounds kind of like something Michael from The Office might say.
Possible it just came out wrong though.

It HAS to have been misinterpreted somehow. I just can’t fathom anyone actually saying that. Writer must be a Met fan.

FACT
Cole Hamels is too awesome to be jinxed by an SI cover.
"Carlos Quentin? Where's Hamilton?"
"I ate him."

Silly fools...
Cole Hamels isn’t jinxed by covers of magazines, magazines are jinxed by covers of Cole Hamels.

He beat...
…the mighty Curse of Billy Penn, so I’m not worried about the SI curse.
