March 24, 2009 - Phillies Breakfast Links

Japan defeats Korea 5-3 in 10 innings to claim their second World Baseball Classic Championship.  Future New York Yankees flameout Yu Darvish gained the victory in relief, despite allowing Korea to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th with two outs.  Chan Ho Park is probably very sad.

And the Phillies beat the Yankees, 8-3, behind J.A. Happ who, despite giving up lots of baserunners, managed to escape too much harm.  Stairs ripped one into the afternoon.

Cole Hamels may start the season April 10th, in Colorado.  Way to ease a guy back into things.

Kendrick was sent down, and so were Lou Marson and Jason Donald.  Get ready for lots of General Bruntlett.  Or Miguel Cairo.  That's managin' a roster!

Bill Conlin pens a "tribute" to Curt Schilling.

Scott Eyre inexplicably pleased to have left the Chicago Cubs and joined the Philadelphia Phillies last season.  What ever could be the reason?  P.S., they make Phillies bikinis?

It's time for real baseball to start when all you have left are feature pieces on Clay Condrey.

Conlin has really been specializing in the backhanded, passive-aggressive hit piece recently, hasn’t he?

Schilling’s mark on the game will be remembered long after Conlin’s farts in the wind, that’s for sure.

One thing to remember, Con… you couldn’t type with a sutured up hand, and Schill would get along great with the current Phils were he on the team. They’re committed to win.

Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

oh dear

If I got that for my wife it’d probably lead directly to some divorce proceedings.

+1

Me too, especially for when I go to the beach with all of my Mets fan friends.

hey

Is that the first post ever on TGP by a female commenter?

Not that that would be surprising, considering this is not only a baseball blog, but a baseball blog for nerds.

blogs for nerds

Aren’t all blogs, almost by definition, for nerds?

That is a fair point.

So what you’re implying is that

female sports fans are rare
female nerds are rare

ipso factor female sports nerds should be rarer?

That’s just sexist :)

"Someone created the box score," Morey says, "and he should be shot."

Blocked shots — they look great, but unless you secure the ball afterward, you haven’t helped your team all that much.

fact-finding

If adult male nerds live in their moms’ basements, do adult female nerds live in their dads’ basements?

Nah

We usually find a male nerd to live without side their mom’s basement.

Live your life. Have fun. Do what you gotta do.
