For Harry: Phillies 9, Nationals 8
For one day, it doesn't matter. But, they say, life goes on.
With heavy hearts, the Phillies took the field in Washington, D.C. for the Nationals' Home Opener, having shortly before the game received word that beloved broadcaster Harry Kalas was dead at the age of 73.
The Phillies' lineup paid tribute to Harry in the best way possible... home runs! Shane Victorino (who pointed to the booth after crossing home plate), Ryan Howard, and Raul Ibanez all went deep for the Fightins. Now, and for the rest of our lives, we'll just have to imagine Harry's classic home run call -- "Swing and a long drive... watch. this. baby. OUTTA HERE, home run Ryan Howard!" I can hear it in my mind. I'll hear it for the rest of my life. I'll never be able to watch another Phillies game, or see another Phillies home run, without hearing Harry's voice. It was his gift to us, and it's something I'll always treasure.
Be good, Harry.

Madson & Lidge filthiness watch
Madson: 4 IP, 13 batters faced, 5 strikeouts, 5 groundouts, 2 flyouts, 1 E-6.
Lidge: 5 IP, 20 batters faced, 7 strikeouts, 5 groundouts, 3 flyouts, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 HR allowed
Madson allowed his first baserunner of the season, on a throwing error by Rollins on what should have been an easy play, and a sharp liner which Ibanez made a great play on, but absolutely baffled Flores and Milledge.
Lidge looked rough at first, giving up a sharp hit into the RF corner to Guzman after pumping four straight fastballs to him, then a homer to Zimmerman, also on a FB. But then he rediscovered his slider, and made Dunn and Dukes look silly and got Johnson to ground harmlessly to Howard. All in all, still filthy.

Man, it’s really good to see Howard hitting.
