Old, Milwaukee: Brewers at Phillies Game Thread, April 21, 2009

Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies, Apr 21, 2009 7:05 PM EDT

So in case you haven't heard, the Phillies (5-6) clubhouse is a disaster area filled with cocky primadonnas and easily distracted, exciteable boys who can't win ballgames.  Nonetheless, here they are, opening a three game set at home versus the Milwaukee Brewers (4-8).

This Brewers club bears some resemblance to the one the Phillies defeated in last year's NLDS.  Notably, CC Sabathia is gone.  But the key lineup cogs remain in place, with superstars Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun leading the attack.

Last year, the Brewers killed lefties... so who better to start tonight than Jamie Moyer, who absorbed the Phillies' only defeat at the hands of the Brewers in last year's NLDS.  The Phillies will be facing Manny Parra.

See. That just reeks of poor preparation from Rollins. He has to know that Parra can have command issues before he steps up to the plate and swings at the first pitch. Even if he hasn’t read the scouting report on Parra he should know as a leadoff man he should be feeling out the pitcher for the subsequent hitters. Drop him in the damn order already.

Indeed. It’s just one of those pet peeves of mine.

It also just seems like he is half assing it when he does something that completely contradicts what the scouting report says on the guy. Show up for work prepared for gods sake — its the only requirement that applies to every job (in some capacity) you can hold.

Get tenure – you’ll be fine

And to say rollin shows up half assed when he lacks plate discipline is a little bit of an exagerration as he’s had the same plate discipline for years
including an MVP year

This is his game – this is who he is – and he has pretty good seasons year after year

If he sucked overall maybe i’d worry more about it – but in general he tends to put together solid seasons and is one of the best TOTAL shortstops in the game

rain delay

Broadcasters are suggesting that a lot of rain is going to fall in a short period of time. So maybe they’ll resume.

Hey, game’s back on. Condrey now pitching.

by dajafi on Apr 21, 2009 10:43 PM EDT reply actions

Sheesh, everybody left the park

But then again it is late, and it is the middle of the week and it’s more than likely that the Phils will win. I guess they’re excused.

I was there & left, actually — it was pouring & because of the lightning & thunder they made us all leave our seats & stand by the concessions, which is not the most inviting place to hang out for an hour. On the plus side (kinda), they put the Flyers game on the Jumbotron, though of course we all just got to watch them lose.

Was also there as the temperature dropped about 15 degrees and wind blew hard left to right. I think most people figured the game’s over (11-3 at that point) and to get a jump on Flyers traffic. Once the wind stopped it was pretty nice there, but yeah, empty.

Condrey allows a run on an infield single, but otherwise sets down the Brewers.

Seth McClung

8 walks, 6 strikeouts in 7 2/3. This is a real problem for their staff.

Phillies want to go home—everybody swinging first pitch. I guess I can’t blame them.

Has Howard started swinging (and missing) and crap again?

by FuquaManuel on Apr 21, 2009 10:59 PM EDT reply actions

He was just trying to park one in garbage time.

I try to remember that with him, the bad comes with the good.

Oh goodness Condrey. Outs are the key.

by FuquaManuel on Apr 21, 2009 11:02 PM EDT reply actions

Woohoo, .500. Everyone above us in the standings lost, too, so that’s a plus.

by zempf on Apr 21, 2009 11:27 PM EDT reply actions

We’re in second place!

Any ideas

when the first game will be when we give up less than four runs? I’m about to start a pool.

I am gonna go with a dark horse and say the next Blanton start.

Any ideas who the first pitcher to go more than 7 innings will be?
