Philadelphia Phillies 2008 World Champions Wheaties Box: UPDATE and CALL TO ACTION
So you might remember earlier this winter when a fellow Phillies blogger noticed that the 2008 Phillies had not yet been honored on a Wheaties cereal box, as virtually every prior World Series champion had been.
I decided to follow up with General Mills to find out what is going on.
I wrote: Will the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies be honored with their own Wheaties box?
Today I received the following response:
Dear Mr. [Camels]:
Thank you for contacting General Mills regarding your interest in Wheaties.
Selecting a Wheaties Champion has never been an easy task, especially in a country graced with so many outstanding athletes. Over the years, virtually hundreds of athletes have played a part in advertising the Breakfast of Champions.
As you might guess, we receive many requests from consumers asking us to feature a favorite athlete or team on a Wheaties package. While most would represent Wheaties well, it is simply not possible to honor them all.
We appreciate that you have taken the time to share your preferences and hope you continue to use and enjoy our products.
Sincerely,
[name redacted]

Frankly, I'm disappointed. Just yesterday at ShopRite, what did I see? The WNBA's Detroit Spark on a Wheaties box. Seriously. Not to diminish the WNBA at all, but I kind of feel like the World Series Champions are deserving of the same accolades, don't you?
I spent months looking at Josh Beckett's awful, furry, rodent-like faccia as I walked down the supermarket aisle last year. I believe our guys deserve the same honor. It's not like you're writing to them to get some guy who bowled a 300 game at your local bowling alley honored. These are the World Series Champions.
Contact General Mills. Tell them you want the Phillies on a Wheaties box! Better late than never.
How can you contact them? First, go to Wheaties.com, then click the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the screen (can't get this to hyperlink, sorry) to complete the electronic customer feedback form. Or... Thanks, General Mills website!
If you prefer to contact us by telephone, please call us at 1-800-248-7310 between (7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. CT, weekdays) If you prefer to send us a fax, send your fax to 1-763-764-8330. You can also write us a letter at our mailing address:

Please, be respectful. But make your voices heard. WE WANT OUR CRUNCHY ACCOLADES!!!

Who cares?
Who eats their cardboard crap cereal anymore anyway? There’s so many more tasty cereals available.
I realize it’s a status thing—and it would be nice to be recognized—but this is Philly. Shouldn’t we be used to being ignored by now?
Have the phillies been recognized by the ‘philly’ companies? That’s what I want to see
Tastykake
Herrs (they’re philadelphia right?)
Utz
Stuff like that would be cool to me -
"Someone created the box score," Morey says, "and he should be shot."
Blocked shots — they look great, but unless you secure the ball afterward, you haven’t helped your team all that much.

Crunchy Accolades
would be a great name for a band.
1994 Indians????
Mrs. MattS (or, rather Mrs. S) just realized that the year that there was NO World Series, in 1994, they put the Indians on the box calling them “American League Champions”! That’s ridiculous. I already sent my complaint in, but somebody send your complaint in and mention they even put a baseball team on there the year that the World Series was CANCELED!
Go Phils
I got the same reply back as you did. Has anyone sent a letter to any of the local news stations? I would imagine that this being aired on TV would get alot more letters sent.
Go for it
Be my guest, spread the word far and wide.
Also, yesterday… I saw an “NBA Legends: Willis Reed” Wheaties box. I am getting sadder!
