Happy Hour: Brewers at Phillies Game Thread, April 23, 2009.
Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies, Apr 23, 2009 1:05 PM EDT
Afternoon baseball!
The rubber match of the series between the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies will take place today at Citizens Bank Park.
Right-handed Dave Bush, the Brewers' sole victor in last season's NLDS, takes on Cole Hamels, who had a pretty nice postseason as well.
Discuss the game here -- and please, be as descriptive as possible for those of us at work!

HP ump is calling the high strike thus far.
Hart singles up the middle. 20th hit allowed by Cole in 10 IP… man oh man.
inning over
Strikeout/CS. Hart should have been safe, but his slide was awful.
Encouraging start from Cole.

hard to say
He was hit on muscle, so my guess is it was a bruise, but I’m sure they’re checking right now.
He immediately slumped over and just kind of stood there, but when the trainer came out, it looked like he wanted to stay in the game.
Obviously we have to hope it’s just a bruise and they went and got him as a precautionary measure. It just figures something this would happen just as Cole started to look a bit like his old self.

I don’t know what gamecast is, but you can look at MLB’s gameday. Go to the at bat and click on his name and it’ll show location. It looked to me like he was intentionally walking him and throwing some stuff out there to see if he would fish for anything.

Crap. That makes the draft interesting. You think they still take a running back right? Although I have heard they are gonna trade out of the first round. Hope that’s a rumor.
by Mitchell Green on Apr 23, 2009 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions
rumor was they were trading out of the first day altogether. getting gonzalaez and boldin for our first day picks. at least thats what sal pal said. shows what he knows
This seems a little far-fetched.
If anything, the Gonzalez deal suggests that they have a clear shot at the one TE, Pettigrew, whom everyone seems excited about. But I still think they take a running back.
I read some idiotic rumors yesterday that they were trading UP to try and get moreno.
I still wanted them to draft oehr just cause when i read the book i liked the kid. No idea if he’s for real or not :)

There’s a lot of stuff out there that ‘might’ happen – receivers moving on draft day – mark sanchez being in play if he’s available at 8 – (and how come there’s not ravinga bout him as a hispanic quarterback, have there been a lot of successful hispanic quarterbacks i missed?)

There’s a reason for the saying ‘money doesn’t buy happiness’ – if you aren’t happy the amount of money you make isnt’ going to help.
I make a ‘comfortable’ salary – but i despise my job and if i could force a trade and still make the same money – i’d be vocal about it every damn day.
Athletes CAN make a lot of money – they can also suffer a shattered knee in the 3rd game of their career and lose half of what they were going to make and have to live on it for the rest of their lives
And most people forget that their ‘slaries’ are gross – not net – so there’s huge chunks coming out of it – and if you get that shattered knee in your first year you could be screwed.
I don’t hold anything against athletes demanding these things if they think they’re worth it – limited resources/unique abiilities, worth what people are willing to pay.
I don’t take it personal – i don’t become emotionally attached to guys and think they should feel ‘lucky’ or ‘rpoud’ to play for philadelphia – especially with the fan base history of underappreciating their stars (especially the non white ones) to a large degree

Now that I have it on mute, without T-Bag shoving it in my face, I’m almost rooting for it. One, it’d be a wake-up call for the team, and two, McCarthy’s obvious orgasmic delight might turn the public against him to the point where he’s eventually let go.
As we’re losing this one anyway, there’s really little downside here.
Wake up call?

Not really. I just bring up the fact that they are a city of bandwagon riders and if they want to come talk to me they should become a fan for longer than 2 years or 2 weeks for that matter . . .
They generally stutter claiming they have been long time fans as they are wearing their Crosby jersey they bought last month after realizing that Pittsburgh has a hockey team again just in time for playoffs.

But see – win or lose – you’re still in pittsburgh – hence the fact you’re screwed either way -
