Happy Hour: Brewers at Phillies Game Thread, April 23, 2009.
Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies, Apr 23, 2009 1:05 PM EDT
Afternoon baseball!
The rubber match of the series between the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies will take place today at Citizens Bank Park.
Right-handed Dave Bush, the Brewers' sole victor in last season's NLDS, takes on Cole Hamels, who had a pretty nice postseason as well.
Discuss the game here -- and please, be as descriptive as possible for those of us at work!

Has Dobbs played any at third so far this year?
by Walcott on Apr 23, 2009 1:20 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
No. And his career numbers vs. Bush are really good. But I guess Charlie figured (perhaps wrongly) that they could score off Bush without him, and that with the lefty Cole facing a righty-heavy Brewers lineup they’d be better off with Pete’s glove at third.

I’m not talking eagles – i’m talking over all – and i love when people criticize the eagles draft every year and yet somehow they seem to do well most years.
There’s a lot of stuff out there that ‘might’ happen – receivers moving on draft day – mark sanchez being in play if he’s available at 8 – (and how come there’s not ravinga bout him as a hispanic quarterback, have there been a lot of successful hispanic quarterbacks i missed?)

There’s a reason for the saying ‘money doesn’t buy happiness’ – if you aren’t happy the amount of money you make isnt’ going to help.
I make a ‘comfortable’ salary – but i despise my job and if i could force a trade and still make the same money – i’d be vocal about it every damn day.
Athletes CAN make a lot of money – they can also suffer a shattered knee in the 3rd game of their career and lose half of what they were going to make and have to live on it for the rest of their lives
And most people forget that their ‘slaries’ are gross – not net – so there’s huge chunks coming out of it – and if you get that shattered knee in your first year you could be screwed.
I don’t hold anything against athletes demanding these things if they think they’re worth it – limited resources/unique abiilities, worth what people are willing to pay.
I don’t take it personal – i don’t become emotionally attached to guys and think they should feel ‘lucky’ or ‘rpoud’ to play for philadelphia – especially with the fan base history of underappreciating their stars (especially the non white ones) to a large degree

Now that I have it on mute, without T-Bag shoving it in my face, I’m almost rooting for it. One, it’d be a wake-up call for the team, and two, McCarthy’s obvious orgasmic delight might turn the public against him to the point where he’s eventually let go.

Great although I out at college near Pittsburgh which sucks considering the Flyers playoff performances.

It’s pittsburgh – flyers performance or not – you’re screwed

Blocked shots — they look great, but unless you secure the ball afterward, you haven’t helped your team all that much.

Not really. I just bring up the fact that they are a city of bandwagon riders and if they want to come talk to me they should become a fan for longer than 2 years or 2 weeks for that matter . . .
They generally stutter claiming they have been long time fans as they are wearing their Crosby jersey they bought last month after realizing that Pittsburgh has a hockey team again just in time for playoffs.

But see – win or lose – you’re still in pittsburgh – hence the fact you’re screwed either way -

Happy to be at an age where I’m old enough to be neither anyone’s child nor parent (absent some totally awesome teen pregnancy creation).
