Here Comes the Rain Again: Dodgers at Phillies, May 14, 2009
Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies, May 14, 2009 1:05 PM EDT
The Philadelphia area has seen five days of unbelievable weather. But, the Seattle-like gloom and rain from last week is back today as the Phillies and Dodgers hope to get in the rubber game of their three-game series.
Cole Hamels hopes to build on his promising start from last Friday night (2 earned runs in 6 innings, 7 strikeouts, 3 hits, 2 walks) and lower his 6.17 ERA for the season. But he's got a tough task ahead of him, as the Phillies face the Dodgers' ace, who actually has started the season performing like one (unlike Hamels). Chad Billingsley has a 5-1 record with a 2.45 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.
Of course, Billingsley will take to the mound memories of his performances against the Phillies in the 2008 playoffs. In case anyone has forgotten, the Phillies pummelled Billingsley in game 1 against the Dodgers and then got to his head in game 5. In neither game did he last through the third inning.
Will it be revenge today for Billingsley? Or will the Phillies continue to mess with him? Or maybe the weather gods will make the teams play this one on some open day in August....

Weird camera shot lingered on Billingsley, who has a great poker face, before cutting to Kemp as he made the catch.
And they just did the same fucking thing on Utley’s deep flyout. The game director must think he’s Stanley Kubrick or something.
The problem with being down only one is the proclivity to try to knock the shit out of the ball instead of merely trying to get on base and set things up

Hey, watch it now…someone just got in trouble for saying they would harm Tony Allen I think it was on an internet forum.
for the record...
I wish Durbin well, particularly if he either performs better or gets cut. I’m just sick of seeing him fail, esp. against the Dodgers.
I’m just tired of people suggesting people get maimed or hurt for a poor performance in an endeavor they don’t even come close to being good enough to play at the same level

I agree. I doubt FM means it.
And when he posts something over the top like that, I just smile thinking about his pronouncement in (I think March) that after the WFC last year, he’d be more laid-back in 2009. That lasted maybe five games ;)
It’s just the kind of WIP like hyperbole that feeds the ‘horrible fan base’ stereotype

It was more of a figure of speech expressing extreme disgust than a real suggestion that Durbin actually commit suicide.
then maybe you and your therpaist should talk about less violent and psychopathic type figures of expressing emotions?

Do you give him credit for PH’ing Dobbs for Feliz, or only blame him for the moves that don’t work out?
Also, if you’re going to rip him for a bullpen move, I nominate using Durbin—who blew two games against this team last August; they own him—not using Lidge.
Why not let Madson pitch two?

But I’m referring to the move in the 9th – not the 10th…if you let madson pitch 2 and madson pitches like madson pitches – and the 9th plays out similarly (no reason for it not to really) – there is no 10th inning

I give credit to ibanez for taking the open base and thus making it easier for them to walk dobbs (or feliz if he had been allowed to bat)

I would rather have had Broxton K Chooch in the last inning than have this happen. This kinda shit just makes my blood boil more than a garden variety 9 inning loss.
7 ip, 2 runs, 9ks, 1 walk
with that pitching line and the way the phils have pitched this year – you can’t call this garden variety anything
And it’s not like billingsley sucks or the dodgers are the worst team in baseball…i believe they have one of the best records around and abset all the manny hype – a lot of it has to do with phenomenal pitching

Yet again, jemagee misses the point…god if I had a dollar for every time that happened.
By “garden variety” I am not talking about the quality of the opposing pitching (which was great) I was talking about the length of and late inning uneventfulness of the game. I would rather have had them go down without a fight than have them tease us like this.
that’s more painful than any phillies loss
