The Philadelphia Phillies visit the White House

At long last, the Philadelphia Phillies got to indulge in one of the biggest honors associated with winning a World F---ing Championship -- a visit to the White House and a photo op with President Obama.

Who needs a Wheaties box, anyway?

So which Phils were pissed off about this because they supported McCain?

Myers, for one.

This sort of thing always reminds me of when the Green Bay Packers went to the White House in 1997 after they won the Super Bowl. Mark Chmura, a hard-core Republican, didn’t go because he thought Bill Clinton was a moral degenerate.

Whoops.

Holy cow!

What a story — connecting Chmura and his boycotting Clinton to what he did several years later. Damn.

WOMP!!! Great find dajafi!

Brett Myers decks his child out in confederate flag T-shirts, so for all we know he still believes that Rollins, Howard, and Obama should be serving him sweet tea and bringing in the cotton crop. Or at the very least they should be playing in a separate baseball league, much less running the country.

I suspect that not too many of them are all that political. I know Rollins actively campaigned for Obama, and I bet Victorino has some love for a fellow Hawaiian, but outside of them, who knows?

I’m guessing that by and large they’re pretty psyched no matter who the President is. It’s a big honor, regardless.

What’s kind of amusing is that if you look through all those pictures, the guy who seems bubbling over with happiness is Pat Gillick. Who knew?

Cholly

Cholly looks pretty overjoyed in the main picture here.

In his addled mind he thought he was meeting santa claus

Blocked shots — they look great, but unless you secure the ball afterward, you haven’t helped your team all that much.

I actually wonder how many of them even voted. They’re all rich, which suggests they’re more likely to vote, but I also have this mental image of every Phillie having hibernated from about Nov. 1 until sometime after Thanksgiving.

Rollins is the only one I know to be politically active.

Generally, I think you’re probably right though.

No one eats Wheaties anyway.

I live outside DC

And I saw them entering the White House and snapped some nice photos. If you haven’t seen him in person, Ryan Howard is absolutely massive. Just…massive.

Imagine how much bigger he was before the svelte 09 version arrived.

If I understand a variety of stories i’ve read/seen properly – Ryan Howard is the ‘runt’ of the Howard siblings.

I've heard that, too

At least as far as the sons in the family go. He has a sister too, I think.

I think the story involved Ryan’s twin brother visiting the clubhouse and Pat Burrell, upon seeing an even BIGGER Howard sibling, saying something like “You’ve gotta be kidding me.”

The only ‘cuter’ story about Ryan is how his mom (an accountant) still handles all his money and I think he even gets some sort of allowance.

They say athletes really are just ‘big kids’ – but I’ve always felt Ryan Howard was the epitome of that but only in the good ways :)

He’s my gf’s favorite non red sox player

Shane Victorino – ‘brigther moments in my life’
Chase Utley ‘generous, down to earth guy, good to see the white house’
Ryan Howard ‘you dream about winning a championship and going to the white house, so i gues this is it, now you move on’

Manuel would like to invite the Prez down to spring training to see if he can pitch or hit
