Old Man and the Sea: Marlins at Phillies Game Thread, May 25, 2009
Miami Marlins at Philadelphia Phillies, May 25, 2009 7:05 PM EDT
The Phillies return home after a successful if not unequivocally perfect 8-2 road trip for a three game series against the Florida Marlins.
Jamie Moyer will, again, be going for his 250th career victory against one of the few teams he's had any success against lately. He'll be opposed by Chris Volstad.
Discuss the game below.

I have both options of announcing/television crews. Which one should I pick?
The Sports Wilderness - Sports With An Enemies List!
The one with the most entertainment value?
The one least likely to drive you mad?

I ended up picking T-Mac and Wheels. Don’t know why. Guess so I can see the Citizens Bank 7 and the Stump the Fans contest.

That, and the fact that I rarely get the Philly broadcast on MLB EI’s.

I liked the blue patriotic hats better
but the red ones are okay, too.

Wow….J-Roll got lucky. Helms was safe, according to the replay. Hopefully the Phils use this break and put a crooked number on the board.

What are crab fries?
Are they what they sound like, deep fried crab sticks?

For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?
Meh
Just fries with Old Bay seasoning (whatever that is) and cheese on them. No crab included.

Yeah, but he also got a BS strike call on the 2-0 pitch, and served up a BP pitch on the full count.

Just another example of how walks come back to bite one in the ass.

honestly.
I’m tired of pitching that have no command of the strikezone. After a year I think that teams have learned to sit in the box and just watch them throw balls.
You know – if ryan howard would learn that same thing he’d do much better at the plate

I kind of feel like we’re in a worst-case scenario with this game: Moyer isn’t pitching well enough to win, at least not against this Phillie-killing pitcher, but he’ll keep his job based on this performance.
I feel he’d keep his job longer than he deserves no matter what due to manuel and the book and moyers ‘long career’ giving him more rope

Get some effing runs and get a win for Moyer so he can stop thinking about number 250.

One would think Dobbs would come up to the plate with a better approach as a PH
The Sports Wilderness - Sports With An Enemies List!
0,9,11,13,6,5,2,1
Runs they scored in his first eight starts. That averages out I think to just under 6 a game, which most pitchers would take.
Okay thats kinda what I was wondering. I figured I was wrong but I never took a deeper look. Shame he can’t get his 250th today :(

This team is an enigma
Going anything less than 4-2 at home against the worst teams in the division is just pathetic. Especially with a west coast trip coming up.
lots of innings with CHoP and Jamie Moyer on the mound too.

And Ronny Paulino did his bit, too
It might be the highlight of their season, as they’re both hitting below .250, each now with one HR. After that 11-1 start the Marlins have been just about the worst team in baseball, haven’t they?
by phillyinportland on May 25, 2009 10:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Demoralizing loss indeed. 8-2 road trip followed by an egg at home, and a truly dickless ninth inning. Stealing while down by two. Really?
Ugh. Get ‘em tomorrow. They better, with the Mets leading the Gnats, it’ll be a .5 game lead.

I have more problems with the outs on the basepaths and bad situational hitting than I do with Moyer. Postgame showing that Moyer had Helms on 2-2 before the 3-run HR, which was the difference in the ballgame.
by Wet Luzinski on May 25, 2009 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions
If you look up earlier there are some posts that indicate that moyer had some gifts earlier, and even with the missed strike – it was a full count and he served up helms quite a homerunable pitch
