Day 1 and Day 2 Draft Recaps from PhuturePhillies
There is little to nothing that we could add to what our friends over at the outstanding PhuturePhillies blog have compiled these past two days on the Phillies and their draftees, so I will point you to the following links. Highly recommended:
Excerpt:
Our first pick, [Dugan,] if he remains at 1B, could just be an interesting guy. He seems to have a fluid swing, he has present power and maybe more to come. He seems like a good athlete. And that’s fine. But was he the best option available? He was ranked 76th in his own STATE, and ranked in the 200’s overall by PG Crosschecker. These sites like BA and PCG aren’t perfect, sometimes guys get underrated/overrated and sometimes guys fall through the cracks. But I think its one thing to maybe take the 125th rated prospect in a draft at 75, and another thing to take the 236th rated prospect in the draft at 75. I hope Dugan wants to sign, I hope he stays at 1B, I hope the power is legit, and I hope he turns into a Lance Berkman type offensive player.
Excerpt:
R7 – Brody Colvin, RHP (St Thomas Moore HS, LA) – Now we’re talking. Colvin has a lightning fast arm and a very projectable frame. He’s already got present low 90’s heat and could sit in the 93-95 range when he’s done maturing physically. He’s also got a sharp curve and the apparent aptitude to develop a changeup as well. His delivery needs a few tweaks, but he’s kind of similar in his total package to what Kyle Drabek was out of high school. Colvin is a major signability pick, as he has a very strong commitment to LSU. If the Phillies are buying him out of that, its likely going to take 7 figures. BA had him ranked 3rd in Louisiana and 43rd overall.

I’m hoping the Phillies have some WFC capital to burn with their signability draftees (not unlike what I suspect assisted in Amaro’s unqualified success in addressing this past offseason’s arbitration cases).
