Ryan Howard reverting to the Howard of old with his two seam fastball to second.
The Sports Wilderness - Sports With An Enemies List!
His throwing mechanics are downright horrible. He flings the thing submarine style and thus the ball has ridiculous tail and he clearly has no control of it whatsoever. Really frustrating when he airmails them to second. He’d be better off not throwing it at all.
Just think, they tried to make him an outfielder.

Watching his throwing motion gives me pain (as a lefty, myself). He cocks his arm and drops into a slot before short arming it. It would be better if at least he could get a good cross-seam grip.

That was a terrible hack by Victorino. It’s going to be a looooong afternoon.

Yanks have tagged Santana for a four spot in the 2nd inning.

If Victorino is the master of the infield popup and bloop hit, Dobbs is the king of the too short bloop.
I should have done a Mel Brooks and presented the 15 commandments of the Phillies, which included Dobbs’ propensity for short bloops.

4-1. Can we just forfeit and give our pen a rest?
The Sports Wilderness - Sports With An Enemies List!
Especially as pussified as the bottom of the order looked. Flipping back and forth now with the New York teams.

If I could go back in time and put a condom on Bud Selig’s dad and prevent interleague play and pretty much everything else bad that has happened to baseball in the last 20 years or so from happening, I would do it in a heartbeat.
Did they have good condoms back in 1935?

What is with Happ today. How many times does he have a hitter on the ropes at 0-2 or 1-2 then walks him? Kendrick-ish, if you ask me.

There’s another one….to Julio F’n Lugo.

If this doesn’t push Amaro to make a move to get a good major league pitcher…
Really, this has been one of the most sobering series we have played in recent memory. I am now convinced that we will not be able to succeed with the rotation as is. We might be able to hang in there with one minor league pitcher in the rotation, but we can’t do it with 2. Too many question marks in the rotation without Happ and Bastardo, it’s only worse with them.
In other NL East news, the Yankees continue to shit on Johan Santana. 6-0.
The Sports Wilderness - Sports With An Enemies List!
Yanks just knocked him out, 7-0. 2 runners on, no out.

I am seriously starting to worry that I might die before I see Jimmy Rollins work a walk ever again. I am 21 years old.
Rollins and Feliz have traded places in batting patience.

I have to believe he doesn’t realize that his plate discipline has disappeared. Otherwise, there is no way to explain why he keeps doing the same thing over and over again — aside from stupidity or insanity.
Jimmy Rollins takes the Andy Reid approach to hitting.

Milt Thompson very well might be a great hitting coach, but it is also true that under his tenure we have witnessed the erosion of the plate discipline of two of our best hitters (Rollins and Howard). Of course, Feliz is taking more walks but I am not sure I like that trade-off.
I don’t know about Rollins’ erosion of discipline. He did have a career high in walks last year and certainly his highest walk rate of his career. This year he has only 12 walks in approximately 285 PA.

I should say that it hasn’t changed much over the time that Milt has been the hitting coach. This year has just been that much worse than the norm, and last year was overachieving.

If it makes you feel any better (and I doubt it), the Yanks are leading 13-0 end of 4.

Yeah, it’s cold, we have tagged Beckett, Santana and Lowe get knocked out early. I need my winter clothing now.

Josh fucking Beckett hits the tying homer.
We are so screwed.

I think this 7th inning is the seminal inning, both top and bottom. Got their big guns coming up against Park, and the top of our order due.

Effective inning from CRaP, despite the leadoff single.

There’s an amazing contrast between the fun, exciting, uplifting game being played on the field today, and the disgracefully sullen and nasty tone of this game thread. But welcome to Philadelphia, I guess.
Watch your adjectives, pal.
It didn’t become uplifting until after it had been excruciatingly painful.
And you somehow stopped posting. Go figure.
For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?
Was this necessary?
Sue me. I wasn’t enjoying the game so i figured I would take advantage of a beautiful Sunday and go outside.

It has only been uplifting from the seventh inning on. But there is something extremely tiring about today’s game.
Mets lost, 15-0
Braves lost, 11-2.
The Sports Wilderness - Sports With An Enemies List!
do you want to always be winning...
…these come from behind games are way more entertaining then a 3-0 win or something. We are the comeback kids, we almost always come back to make it a game.. its amazing.. god bless then phils for playing the most entertaining baseball in the league….
….#1 D in the League!

Thank the Lord. Back to a four game lead. I liked the guts shown by the Phillies here.

I was gone for the weekend
in Milwaukee watching my White Sox take 2 of 3 from the Brewers. It was good to hear that the Phillies got a win today after two disappointing losses on Fri and Sat.
Friday night wasn’t all bad, though. I got a good laugh out of K-Rod’s premature celebratory fist-pumping before Castillo dropped the ball and the Yankees won the game. Served him right to have it come back and bite him.
That ball hit deep! Way back! You can put it on the boooaaaard...YES!
Long drive into deep right center field! This ball is OUTTA HEEERRRREE!
