Dobbshrpole

From reader BigPhillyStyle, a screencap of the Greg Dobbs "foul" ball the other night. We don't know much about the camera angle but at the very least this looks reviewable. Probably not enough to overturn the foul call, but just LOOK. Jeez. BOO. Full-size here.

from that angle, it looks fair. of course, that angle is up the third base line, but also the ball is already well passed the fence. so it’s not clear.

my thoughts are really that how on earth can you tell if it was foul or fair without having a view simultaneously to determine (a) when it passed the fence, and (b) when it passed the foul line.

i don’t see how anyone could see both (a) and (b) at the same time without a foul pole, certainly not from first base. all that would determine is that it went from fair to foul at some point, which everybody in the stadium knew. the question is when it crossed 330 feet. how could he know that?

On TV today, they stated that our 1st base coach felt the ball was foul That is enough for me. But I still strongly feel we were robbed by it not being reviewed. Guarantee if it was a Boston fly, it would have been reviewed.

Oh, please

ESPN has a love affair with the Red Sox. What’s the evidence that umpires do?
