Eating Raul: Blue Jays at Phillies Game Thread, June 18, 2009.
Toronto Blue Jays at Philadelphia Phillies, Jun 18, 2009 1:05 PM EDT
Hot off the news that Phillies erstwhile All-Star outfielder Raul Ibanez was on his way to the 15 day Disabled List, the Phillies gear up for the last game of a three game series with the Toronto Blue Jays, hoping to avoid a sweep at the hands of their Canadian tormentors.
Werth moves over to left field, and recently recalled John Mayberry Jr. gets the start in right.
Hang on, folks.
Discuss the game below.

I just saw the highlights of the Fightins’ many strikeouts last night – it looks just as bad on TV as it did in person.

24 pitches for Cupcakes. Need more effective innings later.

That was an embarrassing inning. Had a rookie pitcher on the ropes and removed the noose from his neck.

Someone/something had better light a fire up the Phillies ass or else this season, mentally, will be lost in the middle of a June swoon.

I am listening to the radio
and the guys were talking about how last year during interleague it looked like they were getting beat by better teams, whereas here it looks like they are just playing sloppy. I wont disagree that they are playing sloppy, but I think they are playing at least good teams. The Red Sox and Blue Jays are both nothing to shake off — if the Phillies can get this one, 2-4 against those teams isnt all that awful.
But whereas you can live with dropping 2 of 3 to the Red Sox — who ran out Lester and Beckett while avoiding Cole Hamels — dropping 2 of 3 to (or, God forbid, being swept by) the Blue Jays — who saw Hamels, and ran out the fearsome trio of Ricky Romero, Scott Richmond, and Brad Mills — is completely unacceptable.
Have you seen the blue jays play this year or are you just assuming they are bad? They’re not a terrible baseball team – and the phillies have run out jamie moyer and joe blanton in two fo these games.
not exactly a duo that scares anyone but medicare and buffets

haha I was just thinking
we need him to start slumping again so the rest of the offense can hit
that’s the kind of thing one of these fancy dancy sites should provide in their ‘splits’ section just for the hell of it…I know I wold on a site i built

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but Jimmy hasn’t walked in like 3 weeks, right?
Yeah, something like May 27 was the last time.

Great escape. I was sure Rolen would burn us there.
I have a jonk-esque rant about booing Rolen that I want to post, but my brain is still a little too jet-lagged at the moment…
Do they still boo Rolen?

If the real implications weren't bad enough...
…I’ve got Blanton on my fantasy squad playing against Rolen, Lind and Werth…
I wish I understood why we are so prone to giving up runs right after we score them. Maybe it’s just because we give up a shit load of runs anyways.
Jimmy should have had that. His defense has been suspect lately.
Can’t remember which inning it was on Tuesday night where he had three straight balls hit at him but bobbled. Anyway, this reminded me of that.

I don’t know about bringing in Park mid-inning.
This team really isn’t finding much easy right now, huh?
Yeah, they do seem to hit a bad stretch right around mid-June every year. I’ve noticed that since ’06 (again, totally subjective… though I know that the Great Offense Brownout of 2008 started right around mid-June).
Now we’re in trouble. Had the guy 1-2, hitless in his career against Park, and then The Nibbling began.
The Nibbling – that’s even worse than The Happening – damn dirty plants

209, I think. By the way, what’s the deal with this guy from Texas with 95 strikeouts already?

What would you accept to allow this? I’d be fine with something like “three games over .500, two back in the division, one for the wild card” to not have to endure what we’re going to go through.
Things like these last four balls in play—a seeing-eye single, an error on DP ball, a bullshit bloop single, and an RBI Rolen double.
Not happening. The Phillies exist to tug at the heart and make us think they always have a shot.

Game’s still within reach, assuming the bats wake up.
This one has been like a football game in which one offense puts together one long drive after another, chewing up clock and occasionally scoring, while the other repeatedly goes three and out yet is still within 10 points or so in the fourth quarter. Not in any way pleasant, but you can’t turn it off with a clear conscience either.
Pretty good analogy.

Nah. The Eagles neither produce nor give up many long drives.
With them, it’s more like they score a couple times early and look friggin’ unbeatable, then Reid gets too cutesy with the playcalls, the other guys get close on one or two egregious defensive breakdowns, and I’m wracked with panic by the fourth quarter.
But he looked good there.

can you protect, chase? it’s so frustrating when you’ve got the hit and run on and then it ends on a no-swing caught stealing (granted, I am listening and not watching, so it sounded like a hit and run)

So that means writing like an ignorant hick with a third grade education and no teeth is acceptable?
Maybe to you it is – but the way you write and abuse grammar is illustrative of who you are and how you think as far as I’m concerned. People who consistently write English as it sounds as opposed to how it should be written (like should of nonsense) just demonstrate a deeper ignorance that makes me weep for our nation

its a blog, not my final thesis, i agree that our nation and children are terrible readers and writers, all they do is watch tv or play video games. however, this is a blog, so get a grip and grow up about how people post messages, if this was english class i can see why you may be a little upset. but its not.
Why do people ever think I’m upset – I’m not upset. I just think you are how you express yourself, and you express yourself as an illiterate inbred mouth breather. Why should anyone take what you have to say seriously – even a little – if you can’t be bothered to use even the most basic English grammar and to not write like a five year old still learning English. Just because ’it’s a blog’ doesn’t mean you should write like a dipstick.
So – you don’t care about how you write or spell why should anyone care what you have to say?
