As usual, the Phils make a mediocre pitcher look fantastic. We’ll see if the new lineup is merely the same as the old.

Fewer Orioles hits and more Orioles outs please
That ball hit deep! Way back! You can put it on the boooaaaard...YES!

Happ is horrible tonight so far. If it was not for a fantastic catcher and left fielder, it would be atleast 2-0. I am very impressed so far w/ Bako, he caught a ball Coste would have looked at and blocked the plate on the throw home by Werth. He had it so covered, I don’t know if the runner could have touched it!

Finally it’s over: Rays 3, Mets 1. Shields over Santana.

Any news on why Bako is in
Or is it just because?
actually, now that I have settled in
I see a bunch of different guys in the line up – that makes sense to me, give some guys some rest after the bad string of losses
Yeah, ‘the flu’.

I would be nice to score some runs. Do the Phils take batting practice and work on the art and science of hitting?

Not to get too carried away but it is possible for this team to suck at bat for nearly an entire game then put up a big number at the end: 4/24 vs. Florida, down 3-0 in the ninth, won 7-3.

Now all I can think about is an office full of FuquaManuels. Instead of the “X days without an accident sign” you might see at a blue-collar work site, it would be “X days without somebody coming in and shooting people.” And X would never crack double digits.

I swear. I only get enraged by things over which I have no control. : )
As for this mess that we call the Phillies, I am just remembering that I felt exactly the same way exactly 1 year ago and then remembering how I felt in late October. Hopefully the parallels don’t end with this June shit-fest. The disturbing difference is that in addition to being generally awful in the starting pitching, offense, and defensive areas we are blowing games in the late innings at a horrifying rate.

Yeah, but mostly it’s about in the neighborhood plays and first basemen pulling off the bag before the ball is there. I am more sympathetic, as I have ump’d and been on the receiving end of every insult in the book.

RYAN1!! WHY MIDDLE IN FASTBALL!!

That was a dead red fastball with him ahead in the count. Second time this inning, third time in his last two games. This might be on Ruiz as much as Madson.

My fan poll on LIdge vs Madson had alot of support for Ryan from some saying not enough opportunities. I disagree, obviously. The experiment should be over.
Shut up, shut up, shut up, moron. It’s not an experiment. You do realize that Madson is the closer because Lidge is on the fucking DL.

If Roberts was able to pull a 96 MPH fastball like that, then he would have whiffed badly on an 82 MPH change.
Fuck this. See you all on Tuesday.
The Sports Wilderness - Sports With An Enemies List!
Just to be clear, the announcers made it clear Madson was to throw the ball away where Ruiz was set up. Madson missed his spot. All on Madson. Madson needs to be benched as a closer. I vote JC for the back up to Lidge. I cannot imagine him being worse. And he seems to get out of jams.
What do you have against Madson? For fucks sake. All you do is bash the guy. Even with that he has still been our best reliever.
by FuquaManuel on Jun 20, 2009 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions
And JC will be no better. He can’t throw strikes for shit. Just a disaster waiting to happen.
by FuquaManuel on Jun 20, 2009 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions
Time to think about getting rid of Dubee. The reason why we lose at home is the pitching staff. I would seriously consider it because they can’t seem to do anything right when they are at home. And to all you idiots who think Madson is the answer, Shut up.
by phillyphan9208 on Jun 20, 2009 10:01 PM EDT reply actions
why? Because our starting pitching sucks and we can’t hit the ball? I don’t think it is his fault. Get rid of our starters other than Hammels would solve alot of issues. OUr bullpen is worn out. worn out by sucking pitching by our starters.
We hit the ball at home this year, but has been the inconsistent starter that killed them. Happ can’t throw strikes to get ahead of a batters, same as with Bastardo. With them not making any improvements in this area, whose responsiblity does it fall on. Themselves and Dubee’s and since they cannot just release or demote them because god knows we all don’t want Kendrick back up here, they have to at least consider it, I don’t want him gone because you see that he can teach because if you see the pitchers on the road, they are more comfortable and attack the strike zone more. I say they should consider it, but not do it

It’s another of those days when it’s tough being a Phillies fan. Many of us have had lots of experiences like this. Too bad how it turned out, because Howard’s pinch hit homer was pretty amazing.
