JC Romero in Fight With Rays Fan After Thursday's Game
The Rays' statement: 'At this point it is a police matter and for that reason we won't have any further comment." AP is reporting that it was JC Romero and that the fight took place after a fan said something to Romero about steroids.

To be fair, I would have beaten the guy’s ass too. He was asking for it, and he got it.

But Romero needs to keep his shit under control. The Phillies already lost a third of a season from Romero due to some dubious decision making on his part. Now there’s a decent chance they’ll miss more.

Yeah. But it’s not like he has been pitching well. I doubt he will miss significant time for this anyways.

Sure – he was asking for it – how many phillies fans ‘ask for it’ at every damn game then?
Seriously, the guy said a few wordss, that’s definitely justification for an ass whooping once you’re over the age 10 right?

ugh, if this goes poorly it will be the suspension that keeps on suspending.
if it goes well, Romero will walk, which seems deeply ironic.

When things go bad for the Phils, it just gets worse. I bet you that the tension all the players were under it did not take much to Romero to flip out.

Problem is, he wasn’t suspended for “steroids” in the first place.

I did something wrong and can’t correct it. Anyway, players need to ignore verbal fan abuse. The Phils don’t need the extra issues right now.

Fans could also stop being morons saying things to professional athletes they’d never say to anyone else…boorish fan behavior needs to stop – it’s ridiculous.

If I may ask, what does the “actions” button do? It just disappears when I click it. Are posters able to edit or delete their posts? Thanks for the help.
by Ritty77 on Jun 28, 2009 12:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Posters can ‘flag’ or ‘rec’ a post that isn’t theirs.
People with various powers can also delete posts on the action button as well.
You can’t flag rec or delete your own post (though I think being able to delete your own post wouldn’t be so bad)…

I have been unable a few times to post a working link. It seems simple, what might I be doing wrong? Thanks again.
by Ritty77 on Jun 28, 2009 12:46 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Do you use the link button or just post a url?
by phils11 on Jun 28, 2009 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I click the link button and paste the URL in the box. Don’t know why it doesn’t post.
by Ritty77 on Jun 28, 2009 4:27 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Make sure you’re typing in the “message” part of the post. When you post a link, you need to type a word to do it right. For example, a lot of people just use the word “link”.
Type the word first, then highlight it and click the link button. Paste the url in the box (and preferably click “open in new window”) then click submit. Your highlighted word should now be the link.

My guess on the result
Lawsuit settled out of court. Criminal charges dropped.

I don't know
I’m not so certain that he’ll get a lot of money. I’d bet $20k or something like that. It doesn’t sound like he suffered that much. Romero will pay to make it go away, and this guy will get a bit of money. This won’t be a big settlement.

I could make good use of 20K right now, hell even 2/3 of it…maybe i shold go to a dodger game and provoke manny

A lawsuit for a simple little shove? It’s not the like guy was injured in any way. I know it’s a litigious country, but this was so minor…

And so was the seinfeld episode that turned into a sexual harassment suit…because of Mulva.
You don’t think a lawyer was on the phone with this guy as soon as he read it in the paper – finding a doctor / shrink to talk about his trauma – god forbid the guys kid was there – WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN.
A lawsuit settled out of court usually means someone gets money

Basic right
There’s a basic right protected by civil and criminal law not to have another person touch you without your permission. That right was violated.

yes
Just because he sued doesn’t mean he’s going to win or recover anything. A jury might see the whole case and deem the “victim” to be an asshat and award him nothing. A judge might dismiss it before trial. But Romero will probably want to shut it down before it gets to that point – hence the (likely) cash settlement.
The best thing to do is to not put yourself in situations where you might get sued.

Yes, that’s true, of course the fact that the prediction was ‘settlement’ probably means guy gets something – no one settles if they get nothing

He will get something
If he sues, which he probably will, he’ll get something. As the story is being told, Romero is in the wrong. Romero will know that and want to get this to go away without taking his chance with a jury. It won’t be a lot, but it will be something. And, frankly, Romero will be better off financially by settling. It’s much better for him to pay X to the plaintiff than have to pay much more than X to his lawyers PLUS risk paying money to the plaintiff.
