Rollins starts it with an out. 0 for his last 25 now. Record territory?

by Ritty77 on Jul 1, 2009 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

The all-time record for a position player appears to be held by Bill Bergen, who went 0 for 46 for the 1909 Brooklyn Dodgers.

In recent years, the longest streak is Todd Zeile’s 0 for 44 in 1996 and 1997. He wasn’t on the Phillies at the time. I think the team record is Desi Relaford’s 0 for 36 in 1998, but I’m not sure about that.

Well, you have to figure if nothing else, Manuel will give him the chance.

by dajafi on Jul 1, 2009 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

Rollins walks!

It’s like he thinks he’s a leadoff man or something.

by dajafi on Jul 1, 2009 7:44 PM EDT reply actions

Rollins “steals” on 3-0. A good throw I think might have had him, but it bounced away.

Vic walks.

Is the plate umpiring really as bad as L.A. is saying it is?

Bucknor’s zone has been a bit inconsistent

I didn’t se the latest one, but Shane was called out on one about collar-bone high. Cholly and Cole on probably on thin ice with CB Buckner.

Michael Taylor just homered again.

by taco pal on Jul 1, 2009 8:03 PM EDT reply actions

2-base error. Werth to 3rd. Gotta pick this up with 1 out.

by Ritty77 on Jul 1, 2009 8:11 PM EDT reply actions

Bucknor is an abomination.

by dajafi on Jul 1, 2009 8:11 PM EDT reply actions

L.A. ripping Jurrjens for throwing to first, as if it was some great crime. L.A.’s act is really starting to wear thin with me.

True enough, but I can’t handle TMac.

8-1 Braves. LA says we need to drill somebody. LOL

The broadcasting booth is pretty far from the mound – but if someone can get it done – more power to them.

2nd place by the ASB smells good

You know...

Our starters have been awful enough this year without Cole Hamels pitching like Adam Eaton in half of his starts.

by PhillyFriar on Jul 1, 2009 8:42 PM EDT reply actions

Another one gone.

9-1. And we don’t have a hit yet. Yeeee-ikes.

Hamels getting hit like Rick Vaughn

You hit this, you get to name it.

I’ll call it the masturbater

doomed

If CH is our ace, we are doomed. If J-Roll is our leadoff man, doubly doomed. Cholly and even moreso Ruben, this is not just a slump by these two. Please wake up. Bring Michael Taylor up, make Victorino leadoff, move Madson back into starter’s job and don’t give up the future for some dumpster pitcher that may become available. I know we are “streaky” but in these instances a truly bad pattern is emerging. Stop the Jerry Manuel/Omar Minaya imitation. Can you chew gum and make some moves at same time.

by suffering on Jul 1, 2009 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

I definitely wouldn’t move Madson around again. He’s going through a bad stretch. But he’s not the answer for the rotation. That’s either in the system or on another team at the moment, or I suppose both.

As for Hamels and Rollins, the team is built in large part on the idea that those guys are what they seemed to be in 2007-2008. Maybe they’re both having singularly bad years; if they’re healthy, that seems to me the most likely explanation, even if it’s not a very satisfying one. Maybe (probably?) they’ll come out of it; if they don’t, no move is likely going to save us.

Part of me thinks this just isn’t going to be our year. I certainly wouldn’t want that to be the guiding thought for Amaro et al (and it’s likely that I wrote the exact same words last summer, probably more than once…), but on the other hand I’d rather they “rest on their laurels” than deal away Taylor and other really solid prospects to give the appearance of “doing something.” The window doesn’t close in September 2009.

broadcast booth

Since Harry’s demise, our broadcasters also remind me of Braves. Just awful. Now that Gary wears a golf cap, dare I suggest a nickname opposite of Ashburn. And he is the best of all. I love this team (for 50 years now) but please make it stop

You know its a disgusting display when there are less than 50 comments for an entire game. Ugh

Demote the entire team and bring up the Iron Pigs for a few days. Can’t be any worse.

What about the brief case? You forgot the brief case! I'm going home! So clear a path, you motherf*ckers! Clear a path! I'M GOING HOME! -Bill Foster
