NY Times Article
Interesting article on a new camera and software system that should be able to provide insight into defense and fielding. There is also a video embed that shows a sample play. Aaron Cunningham can't be too happy about being chosen for this honor.
Interesting that Derek Jeter (last in Range Factor since 2006) was mentioned as someone who's skills will defy quantification. Let the arguments begin.

What’s (not) interesting is that it was the NYT that wrote the article, you think a paper from another city would try and say from the beginning, yes we know derek jeter will suck even worse when this new system comes into place but relly he plays the game the right way and brings so many intangibles he’s just awesome.
Don't frack with me or you'll get a punch in the kidneys...you've been warned

the actual phrase from the article is “Certainly, some fielding matters will defy quantification, like Derek Jeter’s famous grab-and-flip to catcher Jorge Posada that saved a game in the 2001 playoffs.”
which is a bit different than how it was presented here, and I would say a fair statement….
Utley’s deek throw to first and nailing the runner at home in last year’s WS was a similar play.

I thought this was a pretty cool article too. Read it this morning. It’ll be interesting to see how this thing maps out.
