Drabek must be on our 40 man roster for 2009

I just realized that the Phillies must promote Drabek to Triple A Lehigh next year and designate him as part of your 40 man roster.

Star-divide

This is a necessary action to protect our prospect from the rule 5 draft. The rule 5 draft states any player drafted 19 years old are exempt for 3 years and must not be part of any teams 40 man roster. We he is not assign to Lehigh next year, any team can select him in the upcoming rule 5, he must be retained on that teams 25 man roster for an entire season. If he is as good as promoted, many teams will be salivating at the opportunity to draft him. If we have no intention of promoting him, we might as well just trade him.

I think not only will he be on our 40 man, I think he is gonna be on our 25 man roster. Doesn't make sense to leave him in Lehigh.

I wonder who's starting spot he would take, I think that he will start as our 5th starter at first, then earn his way up the roster.

Imagine next years rotation of

Halladay, Hamels, Blanton, Moyer, Drabek.

Not to bad.

I don’t think he has to be at AAA, but he will have to be on the 40-man. However, as you point out, it’s likely moot — if he’s not traded, he’s likely to be on the major league roster.

I don’t think Drabek is likely to be on the major league roster next year, at least not to begin the season. He’ll only have a half-season in AA and maybe a cup of tea in AAA when this season ends. If he dominates in AAA at the beginning of next year and there’s an immediate need for a starter in the majors, then maybe he’ll get a midseason call-up. Otherwise, he should get a full year in AAA and, if all goes well, join the rotation in 2011.

Also, people on the 40-man roster do not need to be at AAA. Brad Harman is on our 40-man and he’s in AA. Drew Naylor is on our 40-man and he’s in Clearwater. (Not that it matters, since Drabek will almost certainly start the year in AAA anyway.)

I don't think AAA is a measure of a young players ability.

AA is fine, AA is where you put you young top prospects, not AAA.

AAA is where you put players that are part of your 40 man roster, and for older lifetime AAAers such as Chris Coste.

AA is where you get your majority of your competition. AAA isn’t necessarily better, just older.

Bleed green, or don't bleed at all!

AA is where you can find some pretty messed up people.

Yes, I agree...

It would have been a travesty if your AA joke fell by the wayside with nobody to draw any humor from it.

For Who? My teammates.

For What? To Win.

How Much? Where do I sign?
