Ricciardi: Halladay for Happ, Drabek, Brown . . . and Hamels, Utley, Rollins, Howard, Taylor, Savery, and Madson
Yes, there are always going to be stories like this where some reporter insists that some ridiculous configurations are being mentioned. But this one in this morning's Inky is kind of outrageous: "Ricciardi would not name the Phillies players he wants, but several people with knowledge of the talks between the two teams said the Jays would require pitchers Drabek and Happ in the deal. And that's just a start. There are indications that the Jays also like minor-league outfielder Dominic Brown . . . ."

My guess is that when the blue jays discuss with any organization they will ‘ask for’ the top 3 or 4 prospects in any organization – they won’t get them but that’s where they’ll start on the off court the GM is a numb nuts
Don't frack with me or you'll get a punch in the kidneys...you've been warned

The biggest megaphone in the Philadelphia sporting world weighs in here. I hate that guy so much.
Would someone explain to me why mortgaging the future is so “gutsy”? To me, the decision that would require the most guts would be to walk away. Isn’t this just sheer demagoguery on Cataldi’s part? Not only are you the public entitled to instant gratification but it’s only weakness in Ruben Amaro’s character that would deny it to you!
Apologies if I’m repeating myself again, but I think this whole Halladay situation has been a real object lesson in why so many Americans are drowning in credit card debt. Go for it now! The future may never come! Prospects are like Kyle Kendrick! Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die!

Fact: Phillies cannot repeat with their current roster
“Let’s face the hard, cold facts. This team, despite its recent 9-1 home stand, is simply not good enough to repeat. The pitching is too poor. The question is: Does he have the intestinal fortitude to spend the money and the players for a real solution to the problem?” (from the article)
Haha, yeah this article is awful.
Yeah, that’s exactly the kind of stuff I’m talking about. I should have tried this approach on my parents when I was a kid. “The question is: Will you buy me another bowl of ice cream or do you lack the intestinal fortitude to spend the money it would take to solve that problem?”
What’s appalling is how much influence that guy has on public opinion around here. He doesn’t even have any real beliefs, it’s all just a cynical act.
I can’t wait for the public rally at City Hall or whatever other cultlike shenanigans he has in mind. Maybe he’ll send the Dirty 30 to protest in front of Amaro’s office or lead chants at the ballpark this weekend.
this may be a little out there, but I think Riccardi may have put Halladay on the trade block only to distract the public etc. about the job he has been doing, especially with regards Wells and such. I think he will probably score points with the fanbase if he pretends to try and trade Halladay, but then rejects a lot of offers from other teams because the other teams didnt offer him enough. It makes him seem like a good GM
Dajafi laid things out well in his post from a week or so ago.
There are certain parameters the Phillies have to set — a “We will not cross this line” ultimatum — and that includes an either/or proposition with Happ and Drabek. You can live with giving up a solid haul of prospects if you don’t touch your major league roster, and you can justify including Happ if it means you get to keep your best prospect. For me, Happ/Carrasco is not a dealbreaker, Drabek/Carrasco isn’t a dealbreaker… but Happ/Drabek is.
Off topic, but our opponent tonight, Joel Pineiro, is really on a roll. It’s pretty amazing how he’s been able to reinvent himself at this point in his career. My recollection of him as a young pitcher with the Mariners was as a hard-throwing strikeout guy. Then he sucked for a while. And now he no longer strikes people out but he’s turned into an extreme groundball pitcher with great control. This year: 122.1 IP, 12 BB, 3 HR.
when you’re negotiating, and you ask someone how much do they want for something, they always start high, and u always start low. And then you negotiate from there. If Ricciardi really thinks hes gonna get Dom Brown, Drabek and Happ, the marijuana up north must be damn good. If that’s what Ricciardi wants, and he is not willing to judge, I suggest the Phillies start asking Cleveland about Cliff Lee.
As far as Im concerned, Halladay can suck it on a perennial 4th place AL East team if he really wants to. Or he can go somewhere else, I’d rather keep the prospects for a pitcher whose not as good as Halladay but requires less prospects. Crossing my fingers for Cliff Lee, to hell with the Blue Bays
