Matt Stairs-Penn State Question

PrintI've seen Stairs in a few press conferences sporting a Penn State Nittany Lions hat. I was wondering what his connection to PSU was? Anybody got a clue?
Being a current student, and an alum in the very very near future, I just wanted to make the connection between my two sports passions in life. Also I needed to make this 75 words long. You guys know the deal. Matt Stairs Is The Man.

The only thing I can guess..
Is he spent a good season in Harrisburg (Montreal AA club). That is PSU country as you know. It was the early 90’s, PSU was probably good (Collins years) and he might have taken a liking to them. Canadians confuse me so I may be way off base but hey, I gave you an answer.
Or he just likes the hat?
