Kendrick is a reminder that future aces can be Happ-less

Yuck. No serious talent evaluators considered Kyle Kendrick a future ace, at any level. Even when he was pitching well, he was walking the razor's edge.

Phillies' Martinez clears another hurdle in bullpen session

"There's no space for harm in my heart. There's only love. Love for the Mets," (Pedro Martinez) said, warming to the moment. "Love for the people. Love for the fans. Love for everybody. Hate? There's no place for hate in my heart."

Happ waits to hear his fate

I feel for J.A. Happ, but it's got to be flattering that teams are fighting over you.

Reading, Lakewood crushed

Joe Savery loses third in a row, three runs over five innings.

Brett Myers of Philadelphia Phillies working toward return to bullpen this season

He might throw a bullpen session this Saturday. Closer...? You know you were thinking it too.

Hmm I think you forgot to post about Halladay in the breakfast links. HOW WILL I LIVE?!

Part of it was due to the realization that 95% of the info we’re getting on the negotiations is utter B.S. and that we’re basically carrying water for the various teams and their media apparati.

Want a sample of the quality Halladay discourse going on in this town? Get a load of this: http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/51984067.html

I’ll summarize:

1. Trade Drabek, Brown, Taylor, Happ, Carrasco, Donald, and Marson to get Halladay, Lee, and Sherrill.
2. That isn’t gutting the system because we still have Vance Worley.
3. Planning for the future is for p***ies – win NOW NOW NOW.

The last point is a small exaggeration, but it isn’t a big one.

do people in baseball really think happ is going to be really good? I don’t know if its seeing kendrick do so well and then regress but i just feel like he is not going to be that great. a number 4 or 5 guy.

A “number 4 or 5 guy” would be much better than Kendrick.

I think, best case, Happ can settle in at averaging ERAs in the high 3’s over full seasons. Whether you want to call that “really good” is up to you.

There are scouts (so I’ve read) who think a good comp for Happ is Andy Petite

And that’s probably an absolute ceiling.

And yeah, that’s actually pretty damn good.

Actually – the quote i read from an espn writer was that the petite comparison was ‘right now’ in terms of how happ is pitching now

I expected Pedro to make his first start against the Giants. He would be pitching in a big ballpark against a weak hitting team.

Rainout in his clearwater start didn’t help
