What should the rotation be?
I am leaning towards this:
Hamels
Lee
Blanton
Happ
Pedro
This is more than just about wanting Moyer out of the rotation, but this is about making smart financial moves. Moyer has escalator clauses in his contract making big buckos starting soon. Put him in the pen or out in the pasture and save some cash.

i agree
but Happ has played in the bullpen in the past year, so that is an option, subbing the ageless wonder for a harder throwing Pedro is my personal choice option also.

He’s paid to pitch when he’s told to pitch – if he doesn’t like it – tough

If true, why does he have a bunch of incentives for relief appearances written into his contract?
Also, Pedro specifically said he’d be willing to pitch out of the pen if needed.
Amaro even said that they signed Pedro to start.

Unsurprisingly I disagree with you totally and believe Pedro has said he’ll pitch wherever they tell him to

Glavine-esque move
i think if we dump him because hes about to make big bucks it put moyer in the same position as glavine was by the braves though i mostly agree with your rotation though i wonder why people arent including myers in next years rotation
2009 2010
Hamels Hamels
Blanton Blanton

Myers is on the books for more this year than Lee is scheduled to make next year.
Myers will depart via free agency.

+ Myers on the books for $12M
+ Lee will be on the books for $8M assuming we excercise the club option

The first 4 with be Hamels, Lee, Blanton, then Happ. After that Im not sure. Im always nervose when Moyer pitches but 10-7 record isnt that bad. Pedro still hasnt proved himself as our starter yet. Moyer and Pedro will rotate I think until they are confident one of them can consistantly start and put up good numbers.

W-L Record isn’t an indicator of how good a pitcher is.
Moyer has a 5.38 FIP (2nd highest of all the years of his career) and a K/BB ratio below 2. That alongside the clause jonk mentioned makes it close to a no-brainer (assuming Pedro is throwing well) to put him in the pen when/if Pedro’s ready to go.
I don’t care if Moyer gets dropped or not, but what’s his FIP since May 15?
If it were up to me, I would just let Rodrigo Lopez pitch until he proves he can’t. But it’s obviously not going to be him, no matter what happens.
FIP from May 20 to present (13 GS, 78 IP) is 4.57, but I’m not sure how much of the pre/post May 20 split is due to Moyer and how much is due to the teams he faced.
There’s no change in swinging strike % (6% both before and after), and strike % overall is the same as well. By cutting it in between May 13 and May 20, you cut out 2 games against the pre-injury-ravaged Mets, and one game against the Dodgers, ATL, and MIL, but with such small sample sizes it’s hard to come to any good conclusions.
I'm tempted to argue for a rotating rotation
Hamels-Lee-Blanton-Happ-Martinez most of the time
Against the young teams (Marlins, Rays, D-Backs, etc), replace Happ with Moyer. I still want to do an analysis on it (maybe this weekend), but I’m pretty darn sure age of the batter is a major factor in Moyer’s success/failure.
"When you make your final stand
I'll be right there
I'll never leave
And all I ask of you is
Believe"
I have changed my tune and I WANT Happ in the pen. You heard it, I want Moyer in the rotation and Happ in the pen. Why? Cause I obviously think we make the playoffs and with Hamels, Lee, Blanton and Pedro, well, Happ won’t be getting any post season starts. But he WILL be in the pen and he’ll probably be of great value there. Put Happ in the pen now, get him used to pitching 2 days ina row and he’ll be primed for the playoffs.
For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?
Gotta split 'em up
Shouldn’t put Hamels and Lee back-to-back, at least not in the regular season. They are too similar in their pitching, only Lee has a better breaking ball and Cole has a better change up. Hamels, Blanton, Lee, Moyer, Happ (or Pedro or add in No. 5 of your choice)
Whats the word on Bastardo? Any chance he gets a look next season? Idk his stats though. Bastardo showed some good stuff until be started to be bothered with the injury. I just thought I would throw his name out there because he hadn’t been mentioned yet.
