See Cliff Lee's Teammates!: Phillies at Diamondbacks Game Thread, July 29, 2009
Philadelphia Phillies at Arizona Diamondbacks, Jul 29, 2009 9:40 PM EDT
Well, yes, I'm afraid there's a baseball game tonight to distract us from New Shiny Thing Cliff Lee.
Former Future-Former Phillie J.A. Happ squares off against Yusmeiro Petit.
Discuss the game below.

It is hour #8 AC (After Carrasco)…I feel a tightness in my chest.

I’m a little verklempt myself…remember, if symptoms worsen, go immediately to the ER.

Only after four hours, though, right?

In other Water Found to be Wet/Pope Found to be Catholic news…..Bobby Cox got tossed from the game vs. the Marlins.
Wait, Bobby Cox got tossed from a game? That’s weird.

Very, since Bobby has such a soft-spoken and grandfatherly personality….he would never talk smack to an umpire!
by WanderingMoses on Jul 29, 2009 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions
that does say 12 HRs in 43 innings for Perez, who throws right, right?
And it also says gametime temp is 100 with a wind blowing out to right.
Lord help the man.
I think everybody hits (home runs) tonight.

Werth and Ruiz are the only righty bats in the lineup.

well yeah, that’s my point, it’s a tough row to hoe. On paper this looks like a thumping.

Baseball moves to the metric system! ERAs would be a helluva lot easier.

I’ve heard grumbling from the DNL crew that sees Happ going back to the bullpen. Im curious as to what ya’ll think
by CoburnsCuddleBuddy on Jul 29, 2009 9:58 PM EDT reply actions
After thinking about it, I like it. Happ’s postseason spot is going to be as an important member of the bullpen. He isn’t likely to get a postseason start, so, might as well start getting him used to being in the pen now.

Then what ChoP moves to the back of the pen to strengthen the lines? His stuff has been quite electric as of late

Yeah, it’s the big question…especially also that Myers may be coming back to the bullpen.

Happ-iness is...
… the bullpen for J.A. I agree, he’s filled in quite nicely for the injured Myers. But assuming Martinez is healthy, you know he’s going to start. They’re definitely not sticking Moyer in the ’pen.
So you have Hamels, Lee, Blanton, Moyer and Martinez. If someone gets hurt they can call on Happ or Lopez. And the healthy Myers will bullpen it up like it’s 2007.
“Bullpen” is now a verb as well as a noun.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
That rotation was in no particular order, FWIW.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
If bullpen is now a verb, can we work out a trade so that the words “conference” and “partner” go back to being solely nouns?
by Wet Luzinski on Jul 29, 2009 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions
Yes please.
Gradually we will take the English language back, so long as “bullpen” can still be a verb.

It would be tough to overstate how friggin awful the D’bags announcers are. They’ve spent the last five minutes making “Happ” puns. I mute it, then my curiosity gets the better of me and I un-mute it, and the jackholes are still at it.
do they say how “Happ”-less the DBacks are?

I almost find myself pining for T-Mac and Wheels…..Almost.
by WanderingMoses on Jul 29, 2009 10:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Curious
I have a feeling that the Phillies are grooming Jim Jackson to take over as the commentator. He’s been on the radio for a while, he seems to know what he’s talking about, and he’s a solid announcer. I heard him during last Saturday’s game and I thought he did a good job.
Plus, since he’s been the voice of the Flyers for a while, he will be recognizable to a lot of Philly sports fans. The familiarity thing is always good. (Wheels is even more familiar, of course, but he’s not the best announcer in the world.)
Am I completely sideways or do you guys agree?
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
I go with the prevailing backroom deal that has Scott Graham coming back from the Mets team.

by Wet Luzinski on Jul 29, 2009 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Too bad it won’t be Sunday – I think they said that game was going to be the TBS game of the week. I wonder if that means Moyer pitches on Sunday and Hamels not until Tuesday vs. Colorado or if they’ll stick with Hamels on Sunday and give Moyer extra rest until Tuesday. That might not be a bad idea, since it would still allow Moyer to come back on normal rest against the Marlins in his next start.

2009 Phillies = making unknown and crappy pitchers look like Cy Young/Walter Johnson/Sandy Koufax/Bob Gibson.

Well, no, just irrational pissiness. Seems like we can beat aces, but 0-5 pitchers with 7.00 ERA’s we have problems.

Hello everyone. So my TV set appears to be malfunctioning – for some reason it’s telling me that we’re getting dominated and shut out by Yusmeiro Petit.
I think he prevented a lot of excess rubbing by removing it!

Hey, I’d have NO problem if she was talking to TGP or at least tried to discuss things on here and pimped herself off as well. Comeon, she was just trying to show off some T&A and while I LOVE T&A, I can find it out there by myslef and at a higher quality.
