Phillies Breakfast Links, August 14, 2009: The Road in 2010, Return of Wagner
Paul Hagen: Wagner is worth the Phillies' consideration
One problem with this is that Billy Wagner will likely be a Type A free agent (yes, I know), so if the Mets offer him arbitration and he walks, they get two draft picks. So the Mets will want something significant for him.

I thought Wagner would be a good option until

Would Wagner really be an A free agent?
Considering the injury issues?
No desire for Wagner in the clubhouse.
He helped destory the Phillies clubhouse when here…he didn’t do much for the Mets either.
Pass.
+1 PASS on Wagner
He was classless when he left. The mouth from the South. Good riddance. Glad we got our ring without him.

Why do we have to play the AL East AGAIN next year?
Cant we mix it up and play a different division in interleague?

minor league host families
I am pretty sure they do NOT get paid. Getting to know young ballplayers (some of whom may make the bigs someday) is supposed to be its own reward, I suppose.

"Streaking Braves prepare to face Phillies"
I’m hoping they put their uniforms back on first.
"When you make your final stand
I'll be right there
I'll never leave
And all I ask of you is
Believe"
I’ve had that thought about the Phils trading for Wagner. We certainly could use a reliever who shuts down lefties and has closer experience… but the picture of that smirking little bastard in Hagen’s story just brought back all the loathing. Add in that the Mets would want to draw serious blood in any trade that might help the Phillies (Ruben: “What do you want for us to take that $3 million you owe Wags off your hands?” Omar: “Well, we need outfielders… how about that Demonic Brown kid?”) and I don’t see how it works.
If Wagner can pitch better than the fire ball that is brad lidge right nwo – trade for him – if he can’t – don’t
really that’s the only rational practical consideration
Lidge sucks (for whatever reason) right now but rightly or wrongly the phillies keep runing him out there to blow saves. This will be fun during the playoffs (remember curt schilling and his towel?).
If the phillies feel wagner can pitch better and provide stabilization get him if possible and not overly expensive.
It’s doubtful that Wagner has crap left in the tank anyway – but seriously – if he would help – who gives a crap about anything else?
