Phillies Breakfast Links, August 17, 2009: Ouch My Eye/Head, Jesus Christ and the Slider, We're Not Werthy!
Phillies Notebook: Phillies pitcher Myers says he wasn't playing, he tripped
So Brett Myers wasn't injured by his four year old son, he tripped getting out of his car. And he was in a bar fight, but he wasn't in a bar fight, if you catch my meaning. Odds an Ed Hardy shirt was involved: 99.99%.
Rehab moving slowly for Phillies reliever Condrey
One of those injuries that you kind of accept coming off a World Championship.

Werth proves worth his salt in career year
Has there really been anything "quiet" about Jayson Werth's season? He's been remarkably good.
Phillies' Brad Lidge studying for biblical archaeology degree
Will he find that elusive text wherein Jesus taught his disciples how to locate a fastball? If so, then I wholly support his scholarship.
Head's up: Kuroda, Wright, Kinsler healing from recent beanings
It was a horrendous weekend for scary head injuries, including the Mets David Wright, who has gone on the 15 day disabled list due to a concussion. Hopefully everyone is OK and this whole thing accelerates the introduction of that new batting helmet they were talking about.
Carrasco prevails over Tribe, again
Former prospect watch: Carlos Carrasco with another strong outing for Columbus. Good luck man.

Strasburg will sign...
For big, big bucks. Just my guess. Talent aside, his leverage is incredible given the Nats on-field woes, their front office troubles, and the Lerner’s need to fill that beautiful stadium in DC. I am still shocked everytime I watch a Phils-Nats away game on TV on just how empty the stadium is. I don’t mean the nosebleed or bleacher seats. Even the rows immediately behind home plate are empty. Those fans are entitled to a competitive product, but after waiting all those years for a new franchise I would have thought they would been more supportive even in the bad times.
Even if he doesnt, hell probably still get drafted by the Nats again next year since they get the 2 overall pick if he doesnt sign. And, seeing as how theyre the worst team, theyll get the 1st overall pick too. So that means Harper and Strasburg will go to the same team in the same draft… Not a bad hull.

ESPN had a stat last night that said Werth has seen more pitches per at bat than any hitter in the Bigs. I was amazed by that.
Leading by almost two-tenths over Luis Castillo, of all people.
Actually, the Phillies have often had guys who do well in this category. Werth was first last year too, but he just missed ESPN’s 500-PA cutoff. Pat Burrell was 2nd in 2007, and Howard was 3rd. Abreu and Burrell were 1 and 2 in both 2005 and 2006.
I likewise was amazed by that stat. I had no idea how Burrell-like his ABs have been.
