Phillies Breakfast Links, August 18, 2009: Signing Deadline, Pedro Comes Home, Brett "The Mystery" Myers
Phillies Sign Seventh-Round Pick Brody Colvin
They got Colvin which is great, but failed to sign Jake Stewart and Andrew Susac. I have a hunch they got a read on which was most receptive (Colvin) and went hard after him. Looks like there was no way Susac was signing.
Washington Nationals SIGN STEPHEN STRASBURG!!!!
From Federal Baseball. I'm glad they were able to pull it off.

It depends how he does down the stretch, but J.A. Happ has a solid chance at claiming Rookie of the Year honors.

Colvin...
Wonder if moving Knapp, Carrasco and Drabek’s possible promotion next year factored into his decision making. A quicker path, so to speak. Anybody have a link about this kid and his measurables?

I would think that moving the 2 of them did affect his decision. I am sure the Phils pointed that out to him and their need for help. It appeared that it was hopeless in that he was already at college when he signed. Maybe he will be a call up in September?? :-)

Strasburg Signing
Im glad the nationals finally had something positive happen for them, that being said I don’t look forward to seeing this guy square off against the phils.
Atleast he is a righty.

Nats
Yeah, the truth is, everybody is a quasi-Nats fan right now, just because they’re like the three-legged puppy you find on the street, and Strasburg is the lonely millionaire who just adopted them.

I’ll seriously be shocked if Strasburg lives up to the hype.

He better be good, I just looked at they’re blog and there’s a legit 10 stories in a row about Strasburg.
I think most haven’t noticed how good the Nats have been playing lately (and who can be blamed). They’re 7-3 in the last ten, recently had an 8 game winning streak, and they’re only 3 games behind the Royals for getting out of last overall. Maybe the Acta firing wasn’t as pointless as everyone thought.
