Petey Comes to Philadelphia: Diamondbacks at Phillies Game Thread, August 18, 2009

Arizona Diamondbacks at Philadelphia Phillies, Aug 18, 2009 7:05 PM EDT

Pedro Martinez makes his home debut with the Phillies tonight versus the Diamondbacks' Jon Garland.

I'm guessing Mark Reynolds is good for at least two home runs this series.

Discuss the game below.

Re: Reynolds

As long as they are solo home runs and the Phils have a 6 run lead at the time.

by WanderingMoses on Aug 18, 2009 10:20 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe Moyer’s earned himself a spot start or two? We’ve got 13 games in 13 days starting today, and two doubleheaders in September.

by taco pal on Aug 18, 2009 10:23 PM EDT reply actions

I think that’s likely for the DHs. Though I guess they could go with Carpenter or Lopez too, depending on how things play out in terms of his usage.

If you have to go through a heavy stretch like what they have coming up, best to hit it in September.

by dajafi on Aug 18, 2009 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I posted just below about leaving Moyer in for the rest of the game, it seems like it would make a decent amount of sense to go 6 man rotation for two weeks or so

by Whack8888 on Aug 18, 2009 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Dont you just leave Moyer in through the end of the game here anyway? That would probably end up giving him about 80 pitches for the outing, which is a lot for relief but obviously he is not really a relief pitcher. They can just give him like 4 or 5 days rest afterwards and he can come in for another long relief situation or maybe a 3 inning thing or something.

by Whack8888 on Aug 18, 2009 10:25 PM EDT reply actions

No harm in letting him start it. I’d have someone up behind him, though.
