Can St. Joseph Hold Back the Waters?: Phillies at Nationals Game Thread, September 10, 2009
Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals, Sep 10, 2009 7:05 PM EDT
The goal tonight for the Phillies: Score early, score often. The rain is coming to DC, and since this is the last scheduled game for the Phillies in Washington, it's highly unlikely to be made up. So they'll do their damnedest to get at least five innings in.
Joe Blanton for the Phillies, and Livan Hernandez for the Nationals, in the physiological opposite of the Pedro Martinez vs. Tim Lincecum matchup.
Discuss the game below.

Well, maybe not TOO often...
After all, if the rain is coming to stay for a while, piling up the runs might not get us through the 5th before the deluge.
So… score early, score enough to be ahead after 5? =p
only have the radio feed (stupid MASN fight with TWC).
Was that a DP? Frantzke said it was 2-4-1 on the putout… but never said “double play” and I honestly didn’t know how many outs there were.
It was. With runners on 1st & 2nd w/one out, the Nats bunted; Phils had the rotation play, Chooch fielded on the 3B side and threw to Utley. Runner on 3rd saw no one covering home and took off: Blanton recovered and caught the throw from Utley who had to double clutch until he got there. Runner out on head-first slide as Blanton sprawled across the plate.

66 minutes without a comment – this has got to be some sort of record, even if was a blowout game. Would have been quite a sight to see the lack of comments if the Phillies had come back and won the game.

So close.
Well, we won two games we had no business winning already in this series. Plus, the Nationals were due to beat us.
One positive we can take from that last inning is that our offense finally woke up. If Howard had hit that ball a bit softer we’d still be playing.
