Life at the Top: Mets at Phillies Game Thread, September 11, 2009

New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies, Sep 11, 2009 7:05 PM EDT

Before the season started, this was surely supposed to be a clash between two postseason contenders.  Now, the Mets are just trying to play spoiler.  And I'm sure they'd love nothing more.

Cole Hamels takes on the "Choke Artists" and starting pitcher/former Phillie Nelson Figueroa.

Discuss the game below.

Hamels has good stuff tonight.

Wow, squeezed there on the 0-1 pitch.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 11, 2009 7:15 PM EDT reply actions

They are making bad contact and somehow still getting on base. This is frustrating.

All right, time to beat the Man Curt Schilling Was Traded For™

Some really good ABs this inning.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 11, 2009 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

That’s frustrating to come up with only 1 there. Utley had some pitches to hit but couldn’t put them in play.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 11, 2009 7:54 PM EDT reply actions

Time to potentially leave RISP LOB Purgatory. Maybe.

Goddamn Feliz fucking sucks.

Hey Bilzo

Just read your fanpost. Incredible. Plus I like the fancy graphics. I’ll read it again tomorrow. Lots of beer and statistics don’t mix. But good job, even though Jemagee will find something to bitch about.

BTW… f’in Howard

Is this groundhog day? Guy on 3rd, 1 out, no dice…

No good reason for Cholly to leave Cole in here. Watch this come back to bite him.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 11, 2009 9:17 PM EDT reply actions

too bad

it’d not raining harder, maybe they’d call the game and we win

by SmilingJPhilsPhan on Sep 11, 2009 9:17 PM EDT reply actions

Cholly really is clueless when it comes to this pitching staff.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 11, 2009 9:19 PM EDT reply actions

12 LOB through 6 innings.

Yikes.

This game shouldn’t even be close.

by PhillyFriar on Sep 11, 2009 9:28 PM EDT reply actions

Now, would it be the Phillies if they didn’t do a hat dance on your heart night after night?

We’re actively trying to win, so it’s a matter of it not being Lidge at this point I think.

We’ve got 9th inning issues.

Our closer can’t get outs ever, and our best reliever suddenly looks less than stellar when installed in the 9th.

Win! Yay!

Wheee, and back to 6 we go.

I think I liked the stretch a lot better when we were looking for the Fish to play the spoiler for our competitors instead of the other way around.

by RaptorLC on Sep 11, 2009 10:14 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe we caught the Nats on the start of a semi-hot streak. (looking for bright side)

Our hitting with RISP is still awful. It was good to see Hamels finally do some damage against the Mets. I think it’s the first time in a while that he’s held them to under 3 runs.
