Wily Old FOX: Mets at Phillies Game Thread, September 12, 2009

New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies, Sep 12, 2009 4:05 PM EDT

So Jamie Moyer has his wish, and the Phillies are a few bills poorer for it.  Double-headers and injuries pushed him back into the rotation in this afternoon's game versus the visiting Mets.  He'll be opposed by Mike Pelfrey.  I'll be there, and likely soggy.  Oh well.

Depending on where you live, the game will be broadcast on FOX.  Check your local listings.

heh…just tuned in. Nice call.

Just like that, 2-0. Can’t get anyone out.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 4:15 PM EDT reply actions

Well, Jamie’s at least made this an easy decision: I don’t have to feel bad about leaving this on in the background and concentrating on some college football instead.

Where art thou JA Happ?

Take. Him. Out.

Game is practically over and he hasn’t even recorded an out.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 4:19 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, I’d bet this is over. For some ridiculous reason, Pelfrey always seems to pitch well against us. This year he has a 7:8 K:BB ratio against us — and is 3-0 with a 3.70 ERA.

by PhillyFriar on Sep 12, 2009 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s why NYM picked up Tim Redding…to teach the rest of the team how to pitch to us.

by Bilzo on Sep 12, 2009 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

What’s hilarious is that I’m actually more upset about the Francoeur single than the Beltran homer because: (1) Beltran is actually good; and (2) I hate Jeff Francoeur’s stupid face.

by PhillyFriar on Sep 12, 2009 4:20 PM EDT reply actions

Well at least he can get the bottom of the lineup out.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 4:23 PM EDT reply actions

Thank God I can’t actually watch this. Will be a short start for Gramps today.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 12, 2009 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

Pelfrey’s looking good too. Bout to close the book on this one early.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

don’t even know what he said…but I support that statement.

by Bilzo on Sep 12, 2009 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Obviously if you’re gritty enough, your team will never trade you… Thanks for the nugget Tim!

And who is this chump in the booth with Timmy today? I don’t recognize his voice, but he’s a complete waste of space as well. At least McCarver knows a FEW facts about the Phils… This guy knows nothing at all.

I think Howie Rose is a member of the Mets broadcast team.

by Bilzo on Sep 12, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t care if he was a Cowboys fan, at least he doesn’t say things like “Yummy says Feliz”

by philiafan14364 on Sep 12, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

who the hell says that?

by Bilzo on Sep 12, 2009 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions

McCarver said it when Feliz hit his bomb

Ick…thank god I had the sound turned off!

by JohnIrvinKennedy on Sep 12, 2009 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Thet don’t add value. He can say that the foul pole is yellow, and while that’s factually accurate, it doesn’t add anything to the broadcast

Still better than what McCarver would say. Instead of saying “the foul pole is yellow”, Tim would say “they were going to paint the pole yellow, but instead they painted it yellow”

I don’t understand how sports people pick their announcers….
Here’s my list of people I have to listen to and abhor:
McCarver
Buck
Morgan
Vitale
Keith Hernandez
Mark Grace
I also don’t like the Marlins peeps or The Hawk…but I generally am not forced to listen to them. I don’t think I’m in the minority here. I don’t understand why the stations don’t know that.

Give me Jon Miller, Vin Scully, Bob Costas…..

It just frustrates me how lazy it is. Sure, Francoeur has a cannon for an arm, but he has no idea where it’s going half the time. Still, I guess it’s just easier to act like Frenchy is one of the more feared outfield arms in baseball than to actually watch him once or twice and realize the truth.

I forgot they brought him up. Don’t know if they have enough confidence to put him in a tight situation though.

by phillyinportland on Sep 12, 2009 6:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Whoops, forgot about Sergio. You’re right.

by CoburnsCuddleBuddy on Sep 12, 2009 6:36 PM EDT reply actions

Others have said it, and I’ll echo – there is no way in hell this team gets past the first round of the playoffs in the current incarnation.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 12, 2009 6:37 PM EDT reply actions

4 run fucking lead should not be this difficult for our back of the bullpen guys to pin down. Ridiculous. Against this team?

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 6:37 PM EDT reply actions

against wright and franceour? not exactly triple A

by CoburnsCuddleBuddy on Sep 12, 2009 6:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Franceour? Really? Should he be a particularly tough out?

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s Tyler Walker, idiots.

will it rain hard enough to call this before the 9th

Note to Charlie Manuel

It’s a one-run lead. It’s Saturday. Do NOT use Brad Lidge!

I actually like it. And it was supported by Real Stats™

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Although...

Lidge has only blown one of his saves at home (out of 15 opportunities)

It looks…

HUGE

I think I should buy just for the comedic value of posting passages in an upcoming chatter thread.

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I have a bad feeling about this one.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 6:47 PM EDT reply actions

your garden variety par-3 bad feeling, or a par-5, no way in hell bad feeling?

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions

If the leadoff runner gets on in the top 9th, we will lose kinda bad feeling.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions

C’mon Mets…help us out here!

by JohnIrvinKennedy on Sep 12, 2009 6:48 PM EDT reply actions

Tomorrow ought to be real entertaining with this parade of pitchers, and a pretty hot day.

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 6:49 PM EDT reply actions

Feliciano

Ah, the memories. Feliciano in to face Utley and Howard.

by phillyinportland on Sep 12, 2009 6:53 PM EDT reply actions

The Mets deserve the same kind of inning we just endured

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

The matchup that I have nightmares about.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

I’m so glad the Mets won’t make the playoffs for that very reason.

by PhillyFriar on Sep 12, 2009 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions

why? you want a ball to hit you in the shoelaces?

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions

GameCast stat said Howard was 4 for 30 with 1 HR and only 2 walks vs. Feliciano.

by phillyinportland on Sep 12, 2009 7:00 PM EDT reply actions

I hate that damn cutter. Fastball, changeup…use them.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 7:00 PM EDT reply actions

Lucky there. 1 down.

by Ritty77 on Sep 12, 2009 7:00 PM EDT reply actions

Heads up play by both Uts and Howard.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 12, 2009 7:01 PM EDT reply actions

Howard almost with the fail, FAIL.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 7:01 PM EDT reply actions

If only we had Bruntlett in the game . . .

he would have screwed up that ground ball to set up a triple play. But noooooo Utley had to go and throw him out.

by mattjg on Sep 12, 2009 7:02 PM EDT reply actions

Werth having a lot of trouble throwing it back into the infield today.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 7:04 PM EDT reply actions

Raul with the critical backup.

by Ritty77 on Sep 12, 2009 7:04 PM EDT reply actions

ugh.

Wow, has Werth been throwing like he…sucks

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 7:04 PM EDT reply actions

There’s that stupid cutter. Needs to just NOT throw it anymore.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 7:05 PM EDT reply actions

well, that didnt go to plan

by CoburnsCuddleBuddy on Sep 12, 2009 7:05 PM EDT reply actions

We are so fucked in the playoffs. No one on this team can get outs in the 9th inning.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 7:06 PM EDT reply actions

I’m sorry… but what are the goddamn odds that David Wright and his evaporating power hits 2 homers in 1 game? I mean, really? The guy has turned into a glorified singles hitter, and today he all of a sudden finds his MIA power stroke.

by PhillyFriar on Sep 12, 2009 7:06 PM EDT reply actions

was it percival or hoffman who was looking for work?

by CoburnsCuddleBuddy on Sep 12, 2009 7:07 PM EDT reply actions

Doesn’t even matter. Neither guy will be available in October.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

NK, how much does his life suck?

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

And today, I even asked his bobblehead if he would pitch well. Except for 5 hitters, he did well.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 12, 2009 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Didn’t Madson do almost the same thing against the Orioles earlier this season. Gets two outs, baserunner, homer.

by phillyinportland on Sep 12, 2009 7:08 PM EDT reply actions

I believe that was a Saturday too

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s my main day to follow games online or on TV. Seems like we’ve had a lot of heartbreakers on Saturdays.

by phillyinportland on Sep 12, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I seriously wish they would just lose 20-1. I can’t take this shit every 3 days.

by besam32 on Sep 12, 2009 7:10 PM EDT reply actions

Fuck. I am not so concerned about the loss. I thought we would lose after the first 5 batters. I am more bothered by the fact that the chance we preserve a lead in the 9th has become almost as likely as the chance that we blow it.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 7:11 PM EDT reply actions

Now this fucking shitbird KRud. I don’t think I will be able to take his celebration today.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

It’s official – Werth is a pussy.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 12, 2009 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

yeah…..the mets don’t have anything to play for. yer so smart jemagee.

by Bilzo on Sep 12, 2009 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

Swing at ball 4, why don’t you?

by FuquaManuel on Sep 12, 2009 7:15 PM EDT reply actions

egad

within the span of about 5 mins, I went from Phils and ND winning to both losing.

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 12, 2009 7:16 PM EDT reply actions

I think it doesn’t matter anymore who is put in there in the 9th. Might as well just keep putting Lidge now.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 12, 2009 7:20 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, seriously…

by besam32 on Sep 12, 2009 7:21 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Probably be the only way to wash down the bitterness of today’s loss.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 12, 2009 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I’ll be trying the " shitload of beer option", but yeah… a sweep tomorrow is probably the only good way.

by RaptorLC on Sep 12, 2009 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Jesus Christ

Phils up 9-5, Myers comes in, we leave for a BBQ and come home to see they lost!!!

What’d Lidge do give Myers and Madson lessons on how to suck?
