I’d just like it if he stayed around his season average for the in play balls as opposed to what went on in 2 of the past 3 games

I wanted to use “Lee Takes Washington” as my recap title when they won the game he started there last week, but I felt like his performance didn’t quite justify it.
well, we Civil War buffs appreciate the effort.
I wanted Washington to name their franchise the Federals, or even the Federales.

With nearly 100 losses in the past couple of seasons, ‘Generals’ would be appropriate.

17,000 straight wins would never get tiring, honestly.

Didn’t the generals actually beat the globetrotters in a legitimate way recently?

Yeah, but if the Phillies went 162-0 for 20 straight seasons and 161-1 in one season, would you be disappointed?
by WanderingMoses on Sep 15, 2009 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions
What would philadlephia fans DO without any losses?
I was just wondering if my memory was right.
I’m pretty shocked the globetrotters still exist

I think a sac here is a mistake. The phils haven’t shown much ability to score from 3rd w/ 1 out as opposed to 2nd. You’re just giving an out for nothing.
I’m wasn’t talking about a bunt, I wanted him to hit it to the right side of the field, but I guess they decided that bunting was better.

While we have a second, could someone post that short clip of Sandoval (I think) falling around second base? I saw it at TGP before. I need a laugh.
Sandoval
The MLB network had the Giants-Rockies game on tonight. Don’t know who the announcers were but they were sharp. The camera panned the dugout and lingered on Sandoval picking his nose. One of the announcers remarked, “It looks like Pablo Sandoval’s hoping he picked the right team to be on tonight.”
Who says there’s no humor in baseball?

ooh, I love how these bases loaded, no out situations end
fortunately we have our highest OBP hitter up now.
have you seen him at the dish this year? If he wasn’t such a highly prized pitcher, I suspect he would’ve supplanted Beardo on the PHer pecking order.
I know that, but at this point in the game, it makes the most sense to bunt him over so Rollins could hit him in, but it doesn’t matter because Rollins does it anyways.

Lee makes sense though he is a good hitter. Victorino bunting is kind of an odd decision though in my opinion.
Yeah, I was a little stunned that Charlie did that, but it has worked out tonight, so why should we worry?

well, the Cleveland series would be interesting. And my college roommate is a White Sox fan. I have SABRmetricish appreciation for the Twins. The Tigers are there. And it’s interesting to see if I can remember any of the names on the Royals from in-between trips waiting in line with my kids for the moon bounce at Wilmington.

Ruiz becoming a good hitting catcher? Maybe not, but after a horrid slump the dude is on fire.
OPS by month:
.697
.970
.482
.606
.951
1.009
Which puts him at .788 for the year.
For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?
If he works on his hitting....
… he could be a .280 guy. Combine that with his defense and his ability to call games, and you’ve got yourself a helluva catcher. He already excels at catchmanship.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
What’s a .280 guy? Was Schmidt a .280 guy?
For Who? My teammates.

How Much? Where do I sign?
I still don’t know what a .280 guy is or why we want one.
For Who? My teammates.

I don’t know what hitting .280 consistently means either. If you are hitting .280, what does consistently mean? Not sure why that would make him a top 3 catcher either. There is more to the game than batting average, dontchaknow.
For Who? My teammates.

I think the Phillies generally have it right when it comes to catcher. Like the Eagles with linebackers, catchers are probably overvalued because they typically only burn brightly for a few years. So, you concentrate on the defensive skills and run prevention, rather than flashy offensive stats.

but it wouldn't hurt to have someone like V Martinez

AVG by NL Catchers (qualified for batting title)
Yadier Molina .283
Brian McCann .281
Benji Molina .263
Russell Martin .240
Yeah..I think I’d take .280. You should too.
Ruiz has a much higher OPS than both Molinas. Seriously dude.
For Who? My teammates.
For What? To Win.
How Much? Where do I sign?
so if you wouldn’t take Chooch with a batting average 20 pts higher than where he is….who would you take in his place that is a reasonable replacement?
You’re not getting: McCann, Mauer, V-Mart, Posada, so hang that up.
he’s a career
BA OBP SLG OPS ▾
.246 .336 .378 .714
and, he is 30 years old. So chances are we are looking at peak here.

for those on the interwebs, a dad in the front row caught the foul ball, nice catch, gave it to his toddler daughter, who threw it over the side.
Hope someone gets them a replacement.

MLB Network is MLB’s answer to NFL Network. I think they only show live games once, myabe twice a week, but they do live look-ins all over MLB at key points in games. Like baseball tonight, but less smarmy.
I live in the WAS/BAL official MLB territory, so I wouldn’t know if they blackout local games, since neither of those teams has been shown (not that I recall)
like ESPN, can get a little Yankees-Red Sox crazy, but like the vaunted NBC Game of the Week days, they do get around to ballparks you very rarely see.
John Kruk should stick to dark suits though.

Michael Taylor
I was really impressed with Michael Taylor when he was being interviewed by Wheels and T-Mac. He’s incredibly articulate and mature.
Is it too early...
… to start magic number-speak?
They’re already doing it on Yahoo, but I personally don’t start taking it seriously until it’s under 10.
That said, we’ll be under 10 if we sweep the Nats and the Marlins lose one more game.
Sorry I was not here to defend my earlier flurry-starting comment on Chooch. I’m in work training this week and my free time is little.
But yeah, if Chooch was a consistent .280 hitter – meaning he averaged out to one-plus hits per night – I’d take that in a heartbeat. I was a big Lieberthal fan fer cryin’ out loud.

don’t have any, but have enjoyed success on StubHub. Try to exploit some of the price elasticities—meaning pass up the row 1 seats. If you just want to get in, find the cheapest ones, go early, and stake out SRO in the infield with the barstyle ledges to put your stuff.
by Wet Luzinski on Sep 15, 2009 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions
stub hub prices
started at least 2 times face value and went up exponentially from there
2 times face was for $22 in upper level
had some $125 for first row HR territory in outfield and prices just went up the closer you get to the infield
Thanks though
