Encore?: Phillies at Braves Game Thread, September 19, 2009
Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves, Sep 19, 2009 7:10 PM EDT
Almost one week after officially striking the killing blow on the 2009 Mets, Pedro Martinez can strike a near-fatal blow against the second place Braves tonight in Atlanta.
His talk will be made that much more difficult by his opponent - Javier Vazquez - who has compiled quite a season himself.
Discuss the game below.

Prado really had to dive for that. It was ripped.

Like a HR off the bat. I thought it was gone, I swear, but didn’t even come close to the warning track.
Nice moist night in ATL, radar looks clear in the short term, but we better get Gramps oiled up.

Diaz bitching to Bill Welke… about two pitches that weren’t really that questionable according to Pitch FX.
It wasn't bad on TV, either
I have no idea what his beef was.

It was a mess, but Pedro
weaseled out with just the one run. Not bad so far. He’s getting strikes and the first two hits were strange ones. He’s not getting smoked.

One run is nothing, that is actually really awesome considering it was 3 straight hits before any outs
Rollins - 2p, but smoked it right at 3rd

Francisco with a "whoops" hit
to make up for Rollins’ hard hit bad luck outs.

If the Braves didn't play in a bandbox, I'm
sure that they wouldn’t be walking Howard.

A very un-Werthlike at bat there.
Vasquez has to be at 60+ pitches. The second inning was a thing of beauty, in terms of working counts. Too bad the Phillies didn’t follow up on that this past half.

I was thinking that Pedro should consider throwing high & tight. Then he hits Escobar.

Wheeler insisting that Pedro isn’t putting the ball where he wants. Don’t agree.

TV - Pedro looks like he has scuba feet
He must wear a 12+. His feet look huuuge. We’re talking clown shoes.

Oh great.
Happ leaves early last night, now Pedro leaves early tonight. Our starting rotation is falling apart just in time for October.
yes this is the 1st time in the history of Baseball
this has ever happened
Ok. McCann is not Lamar Hoyt...
He’s Dwight Schrute with a beard.

no, no, he parts seas and makes bread fall from the sky. If he could make it rain, there wouldn’t have been so much the walking around in the desert so much.

And besides, the only way I can make it rain is if I go to a club and throw dollar bills everywhere!

Perhaps it wasn’t such a brilliant idea to leave your 37 year old pitcher in for 130 pitches in his last start. I guess we will know more clearly when the details of the injury are revealed.
Your 37 y/o pitcher with injury problems, you mean?
Yeah…I agree.

If you had a team of 8 Matt Diazes, with Tim Redding as the starting pitcher, they would go 162-0 against the Phillies.
What about the guy from the D-Backs?

same here, this guy (vasquez) can pitch and has had some tough luck
this year, 9 quality starts with loss or ND
his record should be much better

I missed most of this but MLB.com has a big thing about the teenage girl from the US Open throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, so we probably should have expected this.
After all, doesn’t Atlanta love its (young) women?
WC, like you, I’m bored.
