Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves, Sep 19, 2009 7:10 PM EDT

Almost one week after officially striking the killing blow on the 2009 Mets, Pedro Martinez can strike a near-fatal blow against the second place Braves tonight in Atlanta.

His talk will be made that much more difficult by his opponent - Javier Vazquez - who has compiled quite a season himself.

Discuss the game below.

First pitch, really?

Prado really had to dive for that. It was ripped.

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 19, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Martin Prado, mediocre defensive 2B, doing something above-and-beyond his ability against the Phils yet again.

by PhillyFriar on Sep 19, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Like a HR off the bat. I thought it was gone, I swear, but didn’t even come close to the warning track.

Nice moist night in ATL, radar looks clear in the short term, but we better get Gramps oiled up.

Weird hits, both

C’mon Pedro.

Can’t wait to hear these announcers talk about how clutch this Braves lineup is.

Lovely thing they got going here.

Diaz bitching to Bill Welke… about two pitches that weren’t really that questionable according to Pitch FX.

It wasn't bad on TV, either

I have no idea what his beef was.

2 strikes on everyone this inning. Jaysus.

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 19, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It is true though that the bunt was neutralized by good defense

Bunts, I will never understand bunts

by Whack8888 on Sep 19, 2009 7:50 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It was a mess, but Pedro

weaseled out with just the one run. Not bad so far. He’s getting strikes and the first two hits were strange ones. He’s not getting smoked.

Francisco with a "whoops" hit

by Wet Luzinski on Sep 19, 2009 7:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

A very un-Werthlike at bat there.

Vasquez has to be at 60+ pitches. The second inning was a thing of beauty, in terms of working counts. Too bad the Phillies didn’t follow up on that this past half.

The techies are working on it.

Perhaps it wasn’t such a brilliant idea to leave your 37 year old pitcher in for 130 pitches in his last start. I guess we will know more clearly when the details of the injury are revealed.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 19, 2009 8:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m praying that it’s correlation, and not causation… but the pessimist in me doubts it.

Hopefully it was the same situation as Happ last night — they’re just being cautious.
