Punchless: Marlins 3, Phillies 0

Anibal Sanchez dominated the Phillies tonight, going eight innings and allowing just two hits (both to Chase Utley) as the Marlins took the nightcap of today's doubleheader by a score of 3-0.

Jamie Moyer pitched relatively well, as is his custom against the Marlins, allowing three runs on the night, including solo homers by Dan Uggla and Cody Ross.

Not much else to say here, except that the Phillies Magic Number still sits at 5, as the Braves beat the Mets.  In the race for home-field advantage, the Phillies lost ground to both the Cardinals and the Dodgers, both winners.

Finale to the series tomorrow.  Cole Hamels goes for the Phillies.

I would have bet money—not much, but a little—that you’d have gone with “Dirty Sanchez.”

To be fair, he was really good. But the Phlls didn’t seem focused in their at-bats the way they were against Johnson—who was pretty sharp himself—in the opener.

I had already used Dirty Sanchez in a recap earlier in the season. It’s pretty much the only reason why I didn’t use it this time.

I missed the game and only saw the highlights on ESPN a while ago, but it sure seemed like they were showing batters getting rung up on third strikes that looked out of the strike zone. That might explain some of Sanchez success early on and why it was hard to have good at-bats against him.

a little worried how RAUL will respond to this. in what universe is playing your 37 year-old OF in a meaningless DH on Sept-22 a good idea?

DH = Double Header. I read it as Designated Hitter the first times and was confused as hell.

Clarifying for others in case they’re as dumb as I am.

This seems needlessly alarmist. It’s not like he’s a starting pitcher who pitched both games of the DH; he’s an OF who stands still most of the time, and has to jog or run perhaps 10 times a game. I’m sure his feet were tired but I wouldn’t worry about lasting effects.

Long day...

Hard to sit through a full double header, let alone play back to back away from home. They’ll bounce back tomorrow.
