Hits and Beer: Phillies at Brewers Game Thread, September 24, 2009
Philadelphia Phillies at Milwaukee Brewers, Sep 24, 2009 8:05 PM EDT
The Phillies conclude the away portion of their 2009 regular season schedule with a four game series in Milwaukee, the site of their first postseason triumph last season.
J.A. Happ goes for the Phillies, against Jeff Suppan for the Brewers. The goal is to keep Prince Fielder from untucking his shirt.
Discuss the game below. Pray for lots of early runs and tremendous starting pitching.

131 and ties him with the fatso with an anger management problem in the opposing dugout for the lead

Yeah, never got into psychology – even though I ultimately play amateur psychologist on a daily basis.

i never took psychology but it’s not really that hard to get either…but my comment above was more of a personal experience kind of thing than an armchair psychology kind of thing

Don’t know why I started calling him that. Comes from a YouTube video I enjoy.

Don’t understand giving him the 3-0 green light. Because a) you know he is going to swing no matter what and b) you know he is going to be swinging for the fences as opposed to trying to make solid contact.
Yeah, but no one was touting Bell as the franchise 3B of the future – just as a ‘missing piece of the puzzle’ – almost as vomit inducing, I will concede.

I am not usually prone to outbursts, but my wife had to calm me down after the Utley popup. This just INFURIATES me…and I am sure I am not alone.
RISP fails and late blown leads are two of the three most frustrating things a team can present its fans with. (I’d say that #3 is pitchers who just can’t throw strikes.) This team has given us a ton of both this year, along with the 88 wins.
i love how we’ve heard how awful Kendall is at throwing out base runners, and Werth and Vic haven’t gone yet in three chances. Hell….I’d try the double steal here.

if it weren’t for getting past the long major league career prerequisite, I’m confident I could be a decent color commentator. On TV, where I don’t have to talk so much.

Durbin batting. I have a vague memory that he’s surprisingly good at this for a reliever who spent most of his career in the AL.
Come on Durbs

I would like to go on record as hating the “defensive indifference” tradition the Phils have evidently embraced.
on a day like today with a big lead it doesn't matter as much
but in closer games yes, I am against it

His career statistics are kind of remarkable. Almost by definition, he is just slightly above what the “replacement player” is in the VORP statistic. But the steadiness of his performance is amazing.

I still remember some sports site running a story...
“What if Brett Favre were a woman? Would you dump her by now?”
I think Green Bay’s defense would hit it.
Sorry, shamelessly stolen from a Fark headline. =p
jesus
Time to cast my vote for closer candidacy: Eric Bruntlett.
He’s mediocre at every position on the field, he’d be mediocre at closing, which is better than what we currently have…
At the very least, we should at least put his picture up on the jumbotron, just to make all bats within a quarter-mile radius whimper.
