Brad Lidge undergoes arthroscopic surgery on right knee; Carlos Beltran laughs

Phillies' closer Brad Lidge went under the knife (scope?) today, undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.   Just cleaning stuff up, apparently.  He might miss Opening Day.

Eh, okay.  Remember the last time he had offseason knee surgery?  Prior to the 2008 season.  Maybe we'll luck out again... otherwise, Danys Baez can't do nearly as badly as Lidge did in 2009, can he?

Is it bad that I'm not really relying on Lidge for anything in 2010?

Anything better than last seasons performance will be a significant improvement. May 6 or 7 in a row without blowing a game??? That would be good enough to celebrate.

Lynyrd Skynyrd – they’ll put the band back together, do a few gigs, get some bread

That sounds more correct. He can have all the stars and bars he wants then.

I hear they’re doing wonderful things with implants these days.

I also think veterans wait to do this so that they miss as much of ST as possible.

Haha, I bet your right.

Just like Favre and his “retirement plan” every year. The plan is to miss training camp and two-a-days.

During his prime, Mike Quick used to make up fake contract disputes every year just so he wouldn’t have to run drills.

Frankly I find it somewhat comforting that Lidge had multiple injuries that required surgery…. I would have found it far more troubling to learn he was completely healthy last year.

fair point

If you figure it’s easier to fix something that’s physically wrong than it is to de-suck his performance.

I guess from one perspective it is comforting. On the other hand, it is rather disconcerting that the manager, ostensibly suspecting that something was physically wrong with Lidge, continued to use him in high-leverage situations.

I’m with FM. We’ll always have 2008, but from this point forward, I have not a whit of sentiment. Get some goddamned outs.
