Ed Wade Loves Him Some Brett Myers
So of course my Brett Myers vigil ends at the end of a week when I've been insanely busy at work. But here it is, as predicted. 1 year, $5MM, and I presume, now that he's South of the Border where he belongs, all the Confederate-lovin' swag he can get. Go wish our pals well over at the Crawfish Boxes and regale them with your memorable Brett Myers moments, lest they worry too much that we're eating our hearts out.
We'll always have his playoff trouncing of Sabathia. As for the future? It is written in the stars. As all Astros are.
Congratulations, quakerfan! Email me separately and I'll send along your Tastykake pack.

Awwww nertz. I got the state right at least!
Also, following the link at the end of the post, I completely missed the Yankee implosion over the most hated team post. It takes a special brand of insular thinking to read WC’s post as a mean-spirited rant. That said, I hope the Astros’ fans take it better next year, haha.
ho ho ho
This guy brings up booing Santa Claus. Again. Really.
Because baseball fans do a lot of booing in December…

In a surprising development
He didn’t bring up cheering Michael Irvin’s injury

Or that game with the snowball-throwing incident where we nearly caused the first forfeit in NFL history. Or the game where we threw beer bottles at DeSean Jackson from the stands. Oh wait, that wasn’t us! But since those were done by the fans in the city where you’re from, they must not count.
Not a big deal; as a Philadelphia fan, I try to take a few minutes of time from my normal activities — kicking puppies and burning babies with cigarettes — to go to some of the other teams’ blogs and get to know their regular contributors. Kannengeiser is pretty solid (as is most of AmazinAvenue).

Congratulations. It’s okay to feel a little dirty. The filmy residue from Ed Wade signings is the butterscotchy stuff of life.

Quakerfan—so this took me longer than it should to fulfill, but expect delivery within a day or two.

I love that the picture is (I’m pretty sure) Myers after surrendering another HR.
Like FM, whose Myers hatred eclipses mine, I would have been okay with bringing the SOB back for one more year. It wouldn’t shock me if he more than earns that contract Wade gave him, or if we’re missing him as Moyer/Kendrick/whoever flounders in the #5 slot.
Yep, that Vlad the Impaler circling the bases. I was looking for the actual video, but this is better.
For fans of Brett Myers hatred, I posted my thoughts at Crawfish Boxes, which I’ll just copy:
Enjoy the ride, Astros fans
Myers was always an enigma here in Philadelphia, but bottom line is: This is not a bright man, for many, many reasons, and his career self-management is just splattered with poor, dumb choices, not least of which is his switch to the bullpen, where he was admittedly successful, but probably to his long-term detriment. Still, through 2007 he had genuine stretches of dominance, which makes the first part of this all the more aggravating. In short: a ten-cent head.
This signing is yet another example of questionable judgment. Once Amaro cut him loose, in no uncertain terms and mostly because of what I think was his personality, the best he could do was a 1-year deal like this, and hope that a good year he could flip into an extension. But I think the NL Central is just the worst place for him. We bristle that CBP’s reputation as a bandbox is a bit overblown, but the other aspect of this is that this FB pitcher now will see more of Cincinnati, Chicago, and St. Louis. I thought the NL West or AL West would have been a better spot for his re-invention.
All that said, I’m looking forward to a matchup next summer, as this FB righty vs the Phillies’ lineup should result in a good night for us. But the burnt-orange uniform will likely have an eerie power to hypnotize, as usual. But probably not so much against the big boppers of your division the rest of the season. So, I’d say an ok signing, typically Wade-like (crony thirtysomething reliever for about 50% more than he’s probably worth), it will have an upside until about the all-star game, methinks. Unless you folks feel there is a real value in giving the high prospects noted above more minor league seasoning, Chan Ho Park could have been had for cheaper and would have netted about the same results.
