2010 ALCS Game Two Discussion Thread - Yankees at Rangers
By popular demand, here 'tis!
One night after the New York Yankees once again summoned the powers of Satan en route to victory, the Rangers look to even the series and send the series into the left hand of the CLIFF LEE in New York on Monday night.
Phil Hughes of the Yankees versus Colby Lewis of the Rangers.
I always thought it was weird that they would let one league be two games deep into a postseason series before the other league even threw a pitch, but here we are.
Discuss their game below.

Go Yankees
I think Phillies match up well and, I don’t want to halfto break Lee’s heart in the WS
That is what is making this series hard for me. I hate the Yankees, but do not want to have Lee across the field in the World Series.
I couldn’t think of a more epic pitching matchup than Cliff Lee vs Roy Halladay.

I agree that it is epic....
But the media surrounding it would be brutal… and if Halladay took the loss, it would go over really bad in Philly.
Everything goes over bad in Philly. Just a quick ex. Lee was traded the same day Halladay was aquierd I’m still sore about that.

Go Yankees
Because history shows that every Giant WS victory happens in New York.

Good start for Colby Lewis. After the way last night’s game ended, that was kind of important for them.
Now that's what I call high quality H2O!
If I’m the Yankees, I patiently await the soft underbelly of the Rangers’ pen.

That was some terrible defense by Cano. If he tags Hamilton instead of throwing to home, the run would not have counted and the inning would have been over.

I was fascinated to learn that even in this year – with Cano at the absolute peak of his powers and Utley at age 31 – Utley posted a higher WAR/G than Cano did.
Now, durability is a legitimate consideration in determining how good a player is, so it’s not like Cano shouldn’t get any points for staying healthy all year. That’s one of the benefits of having a younger guy. But that consideration is NOT relevant to determining who will have the better 2B in this particular World Series if both of their teams make it.
Cano had 6.4 WAR this year in 160 games. That falls somewhere in between Utley’s fifth and sixth best seasons.
Utley had 5.2 WAR in 115 games this year. Which means that if had only missed 20 games this year instead of 47, he would have had more WAR than Cano.
Cano may pass Utley in real time over the next year or two, but Cano will never perform as well as Utley did at his peak. He just isn’t in the same class of ballplayer that Utley’s in.
I don't know if this was brought up.
Thanks to the CableVision and Fox dispute, I won’t be able to watch the NLCS from home. THANKS LIFE!

I heard a blurb on that and the pontificator insisted that it would be resolved prior to the game. Sorry to hear that it wasn’t.

It just means that I have to hit the bars. Unfortunately I’m in Mets/Yankees country. I’m hoping my Philly brethren in this area will do the same thing.

There’s a useful website on Phillies bars around the world. Apparently, the NYC-area Phillies bars are “Wogie’s” and “Shorty’s” and there’s also a place called Mulligan’s in Hoboken.
I ONLY LOVE THE LOWER 48!

Yeah, the Grizzly has a much higher xFIP than the polar bear. People bandwagon on the polar bears ‘cause of the strikeouts, but they just aren’t as good.
I’m in New Brunswick, it’s technically mixed territory as it’s more Central NJ. However, the bars will still be full of Yankee fans even by the start of the Phils game. I like to enjoy my games and rather not be harassed haha.

Wogie’s pretty packed the last few postseasons.
Shorty’s used to be a Tony Luke’s takeout spot. Now it’s a sitdown deal.

last night was truly one of the more revolting baseball things I’ve seen. Flipped on the game just to see Gardner get the hand on the bag. Dozed in and out as Yankees chipped away.
There’s always one more than you counted on.

Wings going over here with pizza to follow. A bit more pedestrian.

Remember when Joba and Hughes were competing for a starting spot in the rotation?

Yes. I also seem to remember that competition being as tilted toward Hughes as the Phillies competition was toward Moyer. In both situations, management was right.

Just imagine his lunch order.
Waiter: “What can I get for you, sir?”
CC: “I’ll have the twelve-pound Walrus-burger, three fried chickens, an Egg McMuffin, and a gallon of Coke.”
Waiter:" Anything else?"
CC: “Can I get barbecue sauce on the Egg McMuffin?”

If it’s a Phillies/Rangers WS, there will be plenty to hate about Texas, I’m sure of it, but for now…
http://www.thegoodphight.com
No, the Mets, Yankees, and Braves are truly hateful. The Giants, Brewers and Reds are rivals. I’m on the fence with the Rockies.
http://www.thegoodphight.com
Don’t. For reasons I have not quite figured out, their fans despise us with the passion of 10,000 suns.
Now that's what I call high quality H2O!
Purple row wasn’t a bad place to lurk during the last Phillies series… as for the hate, I think last October may have something to do with it.
Really? Did you read some of their threads during the Phillies-Rockies series this year. They were trashing Philadelphia, Phillies, and Phillies fans worse than TC ever has.
Now that's what I call high quality H2O!
I wonder if the Lee/Halladay national media subplot would affect the Amaro Smugness Factor.

It’s no fault on the Texas population so a few generations ahead of them were big on inbreeding. That’s in the past what they need to do is admit that it is a problem that’s the first step to recovery.

Just got back from a drive to the airport; listening to the game chatter by Miller and Morgan almost drove me to road rage. One more instance of “knowing how to win” and I might have done something I regret.
Who exactly are the Morgan and McCarver fans out there? Does they test well in focus groups? I understand that the networks can’t always cater to the “eggheads in their parents’ basements” but I’ve never heard anyone take the opposite stance and say “boy that Joe Morgan is a really great color commentator”.
Maybe confirmation bias? Ratings stay consistent, so ESPN assumes everything’s working as it should. Lame answer, but it seems likelier than the theory that there is, somewhere, a passionate Joe Morgan fan.
If you know pretty much what they are gonna say [ they are pretty predictable] then why get pissed off
Fair point, and honestly I should probably just have mantra’d out and gone zen, but the inability to mute without losing the play-by-play made the commentary feel like a prison. Also: they suggested that Cano be the MVP simply because the rest of the Yankees were bad this year, which honestly surprised me in terms of horrible analysis.
Here’s how I learned to block shit I didn’t want to hear. I used to work in welding shop that had Rush Limbawl and other right wing luminares on the radio all day which incidentally, didn’t help keep my hands steady at times. So I say to myself it could be that anal cyst Vitenam draft deferment Limbawl…..Morgan’s voice then goes all Charlie Brown teacher as I recall the days of freaking out co-workers when I suddenly threw my shield across the shop because of something that ass hamster said.
I’ve been fortunate enough to avoid Liddy altogether. But I will double-dose with Hannity or Beck if things start getting frantic.
Actually Liddy isn’t as bad as Limbawl….he’d have some interesting guests now and again. At least during those days (don’t know what he is doing now) it wasn’t an unending liberal hate fest. I did learn the a good tip for home security tip. A non firearm tip (suprise). well kinda. Just get a good recording of a 12 gauge being pumped. Everyone knows that sound.
I don’t see the Yankees coming back again tonight. What happened yesterday was really a fluke. Texas’ bullpen is actually pretty good (second lowest ERA in the AL this year).
Yeah but the TV just showed a Postseason ERA of 6 and some change so that’s all that counts.
