Phillies make substantial contract offer to Jayson Werth?
SBNation Philly, citing Philly Sports Daily, having heard a report on 97.5 The Fanatic, who overheard from a family friend of Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr., tells us that the Phillies have made a "substantial" offer to free agent outfielder Jayson Werth, an offer they believe is enough to keep the rightfielder in red pinstripes for several more years.
Thinly sourced? Yup. But not much else to go on at this point. Cole Hamels' dog groomer also overheard about some contract extension talks.
Are you sick of turkey yet? Here's some baloney.

According to my source (my 2 year old son), the offer was for 4 years, $450M.

and possibly Philly Sports Daily. They look a little light on Phillies coverage.

Is the PR shtick really all that necessary? I think the vast majority of Phillies fans made peace with losing Werth a long time ago.
Neither side has much to lose here by playing a bit of brinksmanship. As for PR, it’s probably more necessary when the Phils are trying to be a playoff contender than when they already are and have been for a few seasons. If RAJ is good for anything, it’s that he doesn’t approach the job from the standpoint of: “I come from the Land of 10,000 Losses and Have to Do Things on the Cheap.” Personally, I know it’s hard for me to get out of that mindset.

I believe my source to be as reliable as 97.5’s.

97.5
Said somthing along the lines of 3 years 4th year option worth somthing along 45 mil.
And the chances of him signing that deal are about equal to the chances of the Phillies offering me that deal.

The last thing he said to me, “Doc,” he said, “some time when the crew is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to get out there and give it all they got and win just one for the Zipper. I don’t know where I’ll be then, Doc,” he said, “but I won’t smell too good, that’s for sure.”
We’re due for two more if the “famous people die in three” things holds. The dude still looked good at 84.

It doesn’t have to be Werth, but the more I ponder things, the more the Phils really need to find a coupla “three true outcomes” righties, preferably one in the lineup and one off the bench.
