TGP meetups at Citizens Bank Park, 2010?

Social_order_venn_medium

On the eve of single-game ticket sales, I am curious if any of the esteemed assemblage on this site, and its various hangers-on and n'er-do-wells, blog lords and serfs alike, have any interest in making this demented and sad interwebs endeavor social, and actually meeting up at the park sometime this year. Handheld mobile computing devices optional, but can only serve to enliven the game chatter. ("OK, so the poster who uses "toolsy" in a comment and smokes out taco pal first gets a pass on the next round!" or "precipitates 10 or more ripostes from jemagee or more than three FCC-banned profanities from FuquaManuel has to buy next round" & suchlike).

I realize not all of us are nearby, so I'll target some Saturday games to allow for drive time (or cheap Southwest Airlines flights), and attach a poll to this, maybe pick the top 2 vote-getters. Looking for feedback on the best way to do the actual meetup.  Perhaps we could target a particular section that doesn't sell well and each of us buy tickets there, or maybe easier just establish a standard meeting spot (like 2-3 of us committing to go early enough to commandeer SRO concession rail space behind, say, section 127 or somesuch). Or just meet up at McFadden's before and/or after the game and do the fanboys(&girls) meet Jersey Shore types? Are we to wear t-shirts/jerseys with our web handles for easy identification? Or all wear werewolf masks? Thoughts?

For those not in the Philadelphia area, wondering about some Saturday away games at venues where tickets are easy to come by--in order:

@FLA 5/29, @TOR 6/26 (possibly @PIT 7/3--but that will probably be their fireworks game), @WSH 7/31, @NYM 8/14 or 9/11 (hmm), @ATL 10/2

Poll
Which game would work best for you, assuming you would be interested in a GoodPhighter meetup at Citizens Bank Park? (beware! poll closes on the ides of March)
Sat 4/17 vs. FLA - Cody Ross Voodoo Doll Night!
5 votes
Sat 5/1 vs. NYM - afternoon delight with the Visigoths of the North
10 votes
Sat 5/8 vs. ATL - come cheer on the varsity as they play the JV in our high school park
14 votes
Tues 8/24 vs. HOU - Not a Saturday, but Chooch bobbleheads and the chance we could see Brett Myers was too tempting.

No interest. Would rather clean the bathrooms of Hell than spend an evening with you lot.

I'm Totally Down With That

Especially as birthday + baseball game = excuse to drink some more.

Fantastic idea; just makes me wish I was closer.

Not sure if any of those dates will wind up working out, but I’ll be tracking the progress of this and will jump in should the situation arise. And if anyone’s planning on making it to Boston the second weekend of June (though, even for me, it’ll be a matter of Stubhubbing or Craigslisting tickets), let me know, as I live down the street and will most certainly be at all three games.

Hey, I don’t curse that much anymore!

Pretty new here, but this sounds fun. I just bought tickets for the May 3rd game, so as to not drive my wife completely crazy, the Houston game is the only one I’d realistically be able to make.

I’m already going to 4/17 game. I will make fun of Cody Ross for all if no one else can make it.

I have 4/17 tix too. And 5/1.

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned it, but Ross angers me like no other current player in MLB. I cannot explain it. It’s totally irrational. I hate him with the white hot intensity of 1000 suns.

Matt Diaz is my enemy and I’m completely convinced he’s on the juice.

Can’t make any of those, but if anyone else is going to the Triple A All-Star weekend in Allentown, I will be going to that.

Great idea. Gonna have to play this by ear though…

Sounds good but how about a list of games that everyone is reasonably assured they can get tickets to …LIke Marlins will have alot more tickets than the mets or braves

There’s always a way, stubhub or scalpers or SRO. This is why a semi-official meetup spot makes sense to me and allows for harmonic convergences.

True… I forgot the inspiring story of the Scott Hartnell look a like who was willing to sell her body for WS tickets.

I like the idea, and I always try to make as many games as possible. Not sure on exact dates yet, but I’d be kidding if I told you I was really busy. Especially when all it would take is a subway ride and a few dollars.

Do i get points for shouting Mr. Positive while in attendance at a game?

Mr. Positive wouldn’t have it any other way!

BTW, I love how “No interest” is the leading vote-getter early on…

by Wet Luzinski on Feb 19, 2010 9:19 PM EST reply actions

Well, I voted that because I can’t make any of those games. Next season (i.e. after I finish my Master’s), maybe.

The awkwardness!

I can probably make any of these dates, but my preference is for a weekend date. I voted 5/1 for no particular reason other than an afternoon in mid-spring strikes me as pretty much ideal baseball conditions.

Sundays

Does anyone else have a Sunday Plan?

Washington Nationals - 7/31

I really like that game. Nats park is easy/easy to get to on the metro.

At least the poll shows we have near complete agreement on which game to attend…
