Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Good for Chad. We get wrapped up in star ballplayers and their multimillion dollar five year contracts, but how often do you think about the guy who pitches in 16 games, is out of the game, and has no practical skills or training for the workforce outside of baseball? The overwhelming majority of professional baseball careers end that way, or worse.

Actually I scanned the whole article and it’s pretty cool idea.

It’s a little ironic that my least favorite Phillie in terms of his on-field contribution/s has an outside interest closer by far to my non-baseball life than anything from the guys I actually enjoy watching play.

But for sure it’s good that someone is doing this—there’s a clear need.

Working in a school that has a high profile athletic program, I can speak to this need, especially since a lot of kids think they are coming in and going to leave four years later with a full four-year ride and a clear path to the pros. I realize that I speak of high school and not college, but unfortunately, the mindset Jake Chapman originally possessed creeps lower and lower in age.

I had this same thought. I’ve been very critical of Durbin as a player — and the organization’s decision to keep him — but he’s always sounded like a stand up guy, and this just drives the point home.

It’s always interesting to read the posts on this page, and then go over to the inquirer and read their posts. If i just read the Inquirer posts, I could see why people hate Philadelphia, and the city itself. This blog gives me hope that one day the rest of the sports world won’t be so callous towards us

Most likely, they’ll still be callous towards us

The comments section of any major newspaper’s website is pretty much the lowest of the low in terms of intellect and moral sense.

I think USA Today’s is the worst I’ve seen. Philly.com is up there though.

NJ.com takes the cake.

Paranoia, illiteracy, xenophobia, etc.

Oh, try delcotimes.com, especially when there’s been a violent crime in Chester.

OK, so maybe on the Internet it is easier to conceal your identity.
