In ex-Phillies news, it turns out that Pat Burrell's time in Tampa may be up even before his contract ends at the end of this season, as the Rays designated him for assignment today. Burrell had struck out on 24 of 84 attempts this season. Tampa will end up eating his 9 million dollar salary for this year, and will only recoop a prorated portion of the $400,000 vetran minimum that any club who wanted to trade for him would have to pay... Whether the Rays would even be interested in trading him is doubtful, as Burrell would be due a $200,000 bonus were he to be traded. So, in our desire for old home day, Phillies style, is it time to pick up Burrell a little earlier than next year???? Me thinks not.
