The Injury Timelines - Utley Two Months, Polanco Three Weeks
According to Tom McCarthy on tonight's post-game radio show, Chase Utley is out for two months and Placido Polanco is out for three weeks. No word on Carlos Ruiz, but at this point, I'm not sure I really care.

That did not sound like the plan with what the Phillies were saying earlier today… And unless the regulars pick it up, it really does not matter who they bring in to replace Utley and Polanco— their replacements are not the problem.

Stupid sad panda.

Is sad panda related to fat panda (who plays for the San Francisco Giants)?

Carlos Ruiz
Per Todd Zolecki:
Carlos Ruiz met with concussion specialist Michael Collins in Pittsburgh today (the name sounded familiar— I wonder if he is the same guy Brian Westbrook and DeSean Jackson saw last year). According to head athletic trainer Scott Sheridan, Ruiz is making progress, but the testing they have done still shows concerns, so they are going to do exercises and drills with him in Pittsburgh over the weekend. Their biggest concern is his coming back too soon, making it more likely that he will have another concussion. Ruiz had a prior concussion in 2004.

I’m glad they spoke with the head athletic trainer.

Me too— I think he is giving at least somewhat more insight into what’s going on than anyone else… Although if the Phillies could keep his appearances to delivering good news from now on (which I guess is impossible), I would be a happy girl.

Sophocles is unfortunately neglected in our times
A propos of nothing, Greek literature and this proverb derived from it have little currency in the modern world. I think this is an unfortunate state of affairs that results from a failure of the modern educational system to acknowledge and teach the classics. Ordinarily, this would be merely an academic concern.

So you take something different from the fact that Reuben Amaro, Jr. has not spoken on this— I liked hearing from the trainer because I do not feel that things are being spun when he speaks- I feel like the listeners are getting the terrible, awful, very bad, no good news for exactly what it is. I do not feel the same way with Amaro. However, I will agree with you that he may not be speaking to avoid exactly this firestorm— at least until he comes up with some way to look like the “hero” by patching this team back together (if such can even be done).
